wire numbering for cables

I am having a hard time getting electrical to wire number anything in a cable correctly.

The project is setup to number sequential from page to page.

However, every engineer knows that things in a cable have their own sequential wiring on a PER CABLE basis.

This is putting just the next sequntial number on wires that are inside a cable.

Each cable should be numbers sequential starting at one until it runs out of conductors then moves on to the next one. 

This is industry standard. 

Can anyone tell me how to get electrical to do that?

Yes it is possible but it is a process you need to follow.  A little reading will help you out.

I thought there was a way to assign the color/number for each cable conductor like adding the pin/terminal numbers for relays but I am not finding that right now.  Hopefully someone else can chime in with what I have forgotten.  In the mean time you might try this, it is probably not exactly what you want but here we go....

Find the generic wire color file.  This will be found in your application location.  The file is cblcolor.dat and add the marker tags you want, such as BLK-1, BLK-2, BLK-3 etc.  In your drawing you can draw in all of the wires (the number of conductors in the cable) for your cable.  Then from the Icon Menu insert a parent wire marker.  In the dialog box under Color/ID there is a button for GENERIC.  That button opens the cblcolor.dat for you to pick the wire tag you want.  Once that is done a dialog to insert a Child marker will come up, repeat the generic tag process.

It might be helpful for you to look into the FAN IN / FAN OUT tools.  I think there was an example of it in the tutorials that come with the install.

THIS IS INDUSTRY STANDARD. Im not asking for it to build a space shuttle!

Eplan has no trouble with this, Solid works electrical has no trouble with this!

You just described using wire markers. That was not the question. Im well aware of using wire markers and the parent child relationship

I want it to locate parent cable markers, start with 1 and continue sequentially until it runs out of children. Then go find the next parent. If it cant do this 

this software is severely flawed. 

I do not need the fan in out tool. That is not what im using

yes, cables and wires aren't managed well in ACADE (don't even bother looking at fan in/out!!). The best way to work out the most efficient methods that suit your needs is to check the tutorials then modify those instructions for your use.

for example of cable numbering, all of my drawing sets involve wires AND cables (both numbered- and colored-core cables). I have had to set up cable core lists for each cable type in the database, so that I click to add a parent cable marker, assign it's type, then can click to insert child cable markers for each core and ACADE counts up automatically. THen I have to add a WIRE marker and force it to my cable name because ACADE can't export a cable/wire reports the way we like them.

Yes, it's got serious flaws, but most things that appear as shortcomings in ACADE are just because it's designed to perform a function in a more roundabout way than we would like.
