What is the difference between a cable and a wire?

I am trying to convert a line drawing to an electrical schematic so I can export a cable schedule which shows what type of wires there are, where they connect to etc. I have converted all the lines to wires but am now wondering what the difference is between a wire and a cable. Should I be inserting cables into the drawing between components or wires?

You should be inserting cables and show the number of cores.

A wire is just one electrical conductor. A cable has one or more cores, each can be numbered or coloured and are individually insulated from each other, and collectively insulated as well.

Would you be able to instruct me on how to insert a cable? I can't find any tutorials that cover this anywhere. At the moment I am working with a line drawing (simple lines from an AutoCAD drawing) and have to convert them to wires or cables so I can export out cable schedules.
