The User Attributes file is normally created when you click User Attributes, add user defined attributes that you wish to be available for reports, and save the .wda file. The file is saved in the folder of the active project. Note also that AutoCAD Electrical is relentless about searching the local drive if support files are not found in the project folder. For example, the software always looks inside the project folder for a projectname.wdw file when you insert a wire color/gauge label. If it doesn't find one, it will search the local drive and find the default.wdw file, located in the Support/User folder.
If you check out the Tips/Tricks page on my web site (www.ecadconsultant.com) you will see a section about sharing data over a network. One of the first things I do is copy the AeData folder from My Documents to my network drive. This moves the projects, tutorials, PLC data, wd.env file, catalog database, footprint lookup database, language database, etc. to a shared location to support a collaborative design environment. I then go to Options in AutoCAD Electrical and add this new location for AeData to the top of the Support File Search Path, then close and restart AutoCAD Electrical so it reads the new path. I don't touch the WD_SUP_ALT assignment in the wd.env file. There is one more thing. You must rename the local AeData folder, so AutoCAD Electrical cannot find it. I rename mine to AeData_local. You see, AutoCAD Electrical will still use the local AeData folder if found. If not found, it will resort to the one listed at the top of the Support File Search Path. For more about networking the software visit my web site.
I have a related post on the Idea Station to streamline the process of switching back and forth between using a network AeData path or the local one, for those of us who use our laptop on the network while in the office but need to switch back to the local AeData path when we travel. Right now, I just exit AutoCAD Electrical and rename AeData_local back to AeData, and restart. But the other issue is that when the software no longer sees the network paths they are removed from the Support File Search Path. So each time I return to the office I have to add the network path entries back. I am also sharing menus and libraries so there is more than just the AeData folder that has to be managed. I would appreciate it if you would Kudo my posting on the Idea Station so it can move up in priority.
