Source/destination arrow edit & update incredibly slow

Hello,

I have a problem with source/destination arrow updating and editing that is extremely slow. The project I'm working on is a typical 100 page project with same terminals running from page 10 to 90 (voltage supply) that are linked with jumper bars. On each page source destination arrows are placed. The setup are same in each project, but in some, you have to add or remove pages and then update references accordingly

Let me give you an example, when I right click on a signal arrow and want to edit, with command trace on it starts chewing for a long time spitting out;

This goes on forever until the edit window pops up. If I change anything and clicks "OK" it then again starts chewing away. This is seriously affecting workflow and driving me crazy. Is there any way to recreate this netlist or update it?

Which version of acade are you using, 2021?

1. Make sure you have all windows update are done
2. for 2021, make sure you have Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 is installed.
3. Try this on demo project drawings
4. Rund Electrical Audit
5. reset acade to default. Make sure you save your current settings in case you need to revert back to your current settings
6. last option, reinstall acade

There are some things to check before running down Ramesh's list.

1. Rebuild the database. This should always be the first thing you try when something goes wonky: AEREBUILDDB

2. Use the Surfer tool to check that sources are matched up to the proper destinations.

3. Use the Update Signal References tool, located at Schematic>Edit Wires/Wire Numbers.

4. If #3 doesn't work, try it again using the Project Wide Update/Retag tool, found in Project>Project Tools. Note that there is a checkbox in this tool that is specifically for updating the signal database.

Another thing to consider: did you copy any of these when you drew them? If you copied any of the source or destination arrows, and then simply re-typed their data, then this could be part of your problem. Using standard copy commands can cause errors in xdata and your command trace string indicates that xdata could be a problem.

I've noticed instability with source/destination even when using the Electrical copy commands, too. I no longer copy any sources or destinations, I always insert them fresh. Also, I never edit them in any way. If I have to change the signal code, I kill the symbol and insert a new one. Same thing if I have to move it to a new line reference. (I let them live if all I have to do is scoot them side to side.)

I'm using 2021.

Database rebuilt. No improvement. 

The workflow has been to add a drawing in between already existing drawings in the project. So naturally you need to modify the arrows otherwise it jumps a sheet. Update signal references works, but also takes an enormous amount of time. 

Yes they are copied and are modified later to get the same look of every sheet. I do not copy with "copy" command but ACADs copy clip or copy a whole drawing. Therefore IMO references should be on pair.

Unless you specifically use the Circuit Clipboard, or the Copy Component command, the Xdata attached to all the objects you copy won't get properly edited. It will get duplicated. When you edit the symbol later on, even if you do it via ACADE methods, the software has to try and sort through all that Xdata to figure things out, and if a bunch of it is duplicated, well, it's easy to see why ACADE has to chew through it for so long.

Just out of interest, which version/bit of  Microsoft Office Database Engine currently installed on your PC, is it 2016 -64 bit?

The issue is not resolved. After not finding the problem and just waiting an incredible amount of time, I was able to just get the project done. However now it's the same issue when I need to make some updated to the same project. I really need to get this solved. It's incredibly devastating for productivity. 

And yes, I always use the copy clip, or copy electrical command when drafting. Except when inserting new sheets (if needed) then I usually use copy drawing and then retag components etc. So you mean this is not allowed? I never use CTRL+SHIFT+C or the normal "COPY" command.

I must say it's really frustrated when working on a project and in the middle the project "bricks" when you are on a tight schedule.

Can the Xdata somehow be repaired and checked?

It's 64-bit 2016. And I've reinstalled that as well.

Just updated office. No improvement. I just tried to move one terminal from one point to another on the same electrical line (with rightclick->move component). Then it starten chewing;

in the console. After about 5 min it was done. I did not have command trace on. 

I have tried rebuilding the database. When scooting the same terminal on the line, the update is instant. 

So moving, deleting, changing a component that is connected to a specific circuit is impossible. One pattern that is quite clear is that in the circuits affected supply terminals are running through several drawings (up to 20) that are connected with from/to arrows. Somewhere is this the problem lies. I guess ACAD goes through all the circuits connected to the supply line when change is done. I have also tried to trim wires on a specific page when doing changes. Then all changes and references on that page is working fine. Hope this is a clear explanation. I have also tried the project on an collogues computer. Same problem there.

Ahh... So it's relate to this one project.

The glyph-message is about the font you're using. What font is it? It's missing some of the characters you are using...

If you can zip up the project and share it, I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Hello, yeah that might be, but it's generally no problem in other drawings. 

I unfortunately cannot send you any drawings (because of company policy).

Have you tried by creating a new project file and adding these drawings to that and re-run reports?
