Read-only error when running a drawing list report/TOC

Good afternoon, from time to time I'm getting a drawing read-only error message when trying to run a drawing list report/TOC. When the TOC is more than one drawing, ACADE will try to open a second drawing to put the rest of the data on that drawing. But sometimes when it tries to open, it says the drawing is read-only. All files are local to my computer, none of the files are read-only, nor are there any DWL files in the directory except for first open TOC sheet.  I've done some searches but haven't had any luck finding a resolution. Anyone have any thoughts?  Thank you!

Hi @acclarkJR2TJ

Do you know under what circumstances you see this or is it just random.

Usually you would get read-only error when AutoCAD to trying to open a drawing which is already open by some other program or another instance of AutoCAD itself.

Have you tried opening both TOC drawings before running the report and then run the report and select Update Existing?

Currently, this has been random, which is why it stumps me.
The TOC pages aren't open in any other software since ACADE is the only open software.
The manual process works without issue. But we have automated some of our drawing creation process and this is where we sometimes have an issue.

Do you thinks it could be something to with the automated process you created? Can you explain more on the automated process for creating drawings.
If the said automated process still haven't finished creating a new drawing or has it open while Drawings List Report / TOC report is trying to place table, you might see the read only error.

I am assuming when you say "we have automated some of our drawing creation process" you are not talking about the default option to create a new drawing when current drawing runs out of space for a report.

Sorry, we have created an internal program to help us create our drawings and I can't get into specifics of how it works. But I can say that the files don't always show up as read-only. Sometimes the program works without issue, we have been doing some more testing and things are starting to work out okay. I'm really curious about how ACADE will sometimes see a file as read-only when the file actually isn't. Looks like I'll have to dig into it some more. Thanks! 🙂
