Hey there

One of our clients recently ask us, if it is  possible to scan a page from a project, and then import it to AutoCAD.

Till there i now its possible, but, what we really need its to make the pdf become editable on AutoCAD, so we can translate some of the text there.

If we don´t do this, we´ll have to remake all the project again !!

Does anyone know if it is possible to do this ??

@Anonymous,

AutoCAD 2017 has an updated feature that may help.  PDFImport.

It will take the PDF and convert it to CAD lines/Text.  It works very well on drawings that were drafted in Vector / CAD and turned to PDF.

If that doesn't work for you , there are all kinds of OCD plug-ins and stand alone programs that will convert Raster (PDF) to Vector (CAD).  The problem with these is they will often make several small line segments out of each line, and text is hit or miss if it recognizes it.  There will be a lot of "clean up" but still probably less time than to recreate.

Also, if PDFImport doesn't work, you can still bring the scan in as an Underlay.  AutoCAD will do a decent job of letting you snap to points on the PDF, so you would basically be tracing the drawing back into AutoCAD.

Hope this helps,

Kenny

Just a little side note: The PDF Import was a new feature in AutoCAD 2017.1.1
So, make sure you log into the Autodesk Desktop App with your autodesk user id, and look for updates. It's only available for subscription customers.
