Marking menu not displaying

On a new install, the radial Marking Menu will not appear when right clicking an electrical component. Instead the default context menu appears (as if no object is selected). AEMM value is 3. Tried the Reset to Default Settings (twice) trick with no luck. Also tried a repair, and then a reinstall. The error that shows up is "; error: no function definition: ACEPOPMENUWILLSHOW". Haven't been able to find any reference to this function. Please help me restore the Marking Menu. Thanks.

A real quick question first off which will allow us to help you better...

What release of ACADE are you using?

Including this information in your questions will lead to quicker answers as each release of ACADE has some major differences from the prior releases.

To track down a problem or to answer a How-To question requires us to know which release we should be looking at and as much other information as possible (workflow which causes the problem as an example).

Now on to your problem...

What workspace are you in?

Make sure that you are in one of the ACADE workspaces.

Make sure you are using the ACADE profile.

Click on the Big Red 'A' up the top left hand corner and select Options down the bottom of the menu. Go to the Profile tab to check and or change the profile.

Wha steps are you taking to get the error to show up?

Regards Brad

Right. Thought that because I'd posted while searching through the 2017 entries that it would associate with that version, but no - so I'm on 2017 Electrical on a windows 8.1 machine. I had noticed this same problem in Electrical 2016 which had forced me to revert back to installing 2014, but it's still a problem now.

Yep, ACADE & 2D workspace, and <<ACADE>> profile.

To get the error, I open up an existing drawing done in 2014, right click any electrical component, and instead of the marking menu appearing to allow edits, the default context menu appears (with Repeat <last command used> at the top), as if no object was selected.

This also happens for new components added into a new or existing drawing.

I've had to add the library subdirectories to the search path (e.g. jic1, jic125, jis2) for it to find components, but I don't think that's a related problem. It just won't look in the subdirectories under Libs.

It also claims that 1 or 2 system variables have changed from the preferred value, but under SYSVARMONITOR, only MIRRTEXT needs resetting to 0, and it always reverts to 1 after restarting. There's some other hidden variable that it wants to be different?

The ; error: no function definition: ACEPOPMENUWILLSHOW

still appears when trying to right click.

Just as an update (since it happened to me again last week); the only solution I've found is to completely remove autocad, restart, and reinstall.

There must be some registry entry that's getting affected to cause this. Anyone know the location of the marking menu settings in the registry (and what they should be by default)?

I'm not sure if mentioned already, but have you tried to activate it with this command?

AEONRIGHTCLICKCONTEXTMENU

Also, when you get the message "error: no function definition", can you press F2 key and upload a screenshot?

I tried the AEONRIGHTCLICKCONTEXTMENU but got nowhere, whether it's on or off.

Here is a pic of the POPMENU error

ACADF2.PNG

and since it claims that system variables have changed mysteriously, here's a shot of the SYSVARMONITOR

Thanks for any insight.

richardson,

Has this been resolved yet?

Usually when you see an error, "no function definition", it means something is not loading correctly. Do you see any errors on start up?

Have you tried resetting to default, Windows Start menu > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Electrical {version} > Reset Settings to Default.

Regards,

Pat Murnen

Hi Pat,

Yep. Tried that numerous times. Never worked.

I'm wondering if it could be related to opening a project developed in a different version (with different support file directories etc.) which is messing up where it's trying to find this function.

Is this a possibility?

I've also just installed an available update - think it was 17.1.1 or something. Didn't fix this problem though.

Steve,

Can you send me a small project and drawing set that is active when the problem happens? I can see if I can reproduce it.

Anything you don't want to post here on the forum, you can send to me directly at [email protected].

When you first start AutoCAD Electrical, before you do any commands, can you copy and paste everything on the command line and post it?

If I can't reproduce it, I think we need to get your issue over to support. Do you have a way that you normally do that (might depend on your subscription or license)?

Regards,

Pat

Hi Pat,

After trying the latest 2017 update (2017.1.2) and finding no improvement, I've installed the 2018 version.

And so far so good - the marking menu appears properly.

I'll post back here when and if it disappears from this edition.

Thanks for all your help.

Steve, glad to hear that 2018 is working. If it stops working we will want to get a support case opened.

Pat, this is still happening in 2018 and 2019.  Has there been a resolve for this issue?  We have one designer that it keeps happening to, but have not seen it yet with the other 6 designers.  We are using Autocad Elect. 2018.

Hi,
I have 2022 and faced the same issue after "Reset Settings to Default". Still no solution? I re-installed the AutoCAD Electrical 2022 and no success.

Try setting system variable AEEMXDATAUPDATEMODE to a setting of 1, not 0.  This variable is related to the Location View background refresh.  You can operate without it, especially if you aren't linked to Inventor Professional.

Type AEEMXDATAUPDATEMODE at the command prompt and press your Enter key.  Type 1 and press Enter again.

I tried, didn't work. I didn't find any settings to activate or deactivate Marking menu either.

Use SYSVARMONITOR to check for and reset any changes that were made inadvertently.  The Location View variable should prevent it from happening again.

I tried it and it didn't work.  Finally by Re-installation it was solved. To have a clean uninstallation, I followed below link + I deleted all possible ACADE files from directories I found on Options-->Files after uninstallation and then installed ACADE.

Clean uninstall of AutoCAD or verticals | AutoCAD | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Now, everything works as it should.
