Just installed 2017 trial, can't run at all

I  installed the trial version of AutoCAD Electrical 2017, and I cannot get it to run at all.

When I try to run "AutoCAD Electrical 2017 - English" I get an error "AutoCAD Application has stopped working. Please close the program"

When I try to run "AutoCAD 2017 - English - AutoCAD Electrical", I get the same error (it looks like those are both running acad.exe, but with a different option (ACADE vs VANILLA)

I am able to run Autodesk Desktop App, and it had me install an update, but that didn't make a difference.

I don't get any error message or number, nothing useful to provide.

 autocad_error.png

I tried to run "Reset Settings to Default" but it gave an error "No Settings to Reset - AutoCAD Electrical 2017 - English has not been run yet. There are no settings to reset"

I really don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Whole lot of odd things could cause this.  Have you tried to run the reinstall tool from control panel?

So you can try

Click Windows Start button > Control Panel > Programs and Features > right click on AutoCAD Electrical > click on Uninstall/Change > Repair or Reinstall > Reinstall.

If that does not work look around this board.  I have seen many posts about problems with downloading the software.  It would seem some download sites are not as reliable as others.

Good luck

Tried a Reinstall. The first time it sat there for 20 minutes and did nothing, so I had to reboot my computer and try again. The second time it completed the Reinstall process, but the program still refuses to start.

Now II'll go through and Uninstall everything and try again. Maybe that'll work.

Do you have any antivirus software running?  Try turning it off if you do.

Take a look at this link if things are still not working.

Good luck

Just asking, is this where you downloaded from?  Or did you download it?  Do you have a disk?

Downloaded from here: http://www.autodesk.com/products/autocad-electrical/free-trial

File: AutoCAD_Electrical_2017_English_Win_32_64bit_wi_en-us_Setup_webinstall.exe

Running that downloads AutoCAD_Electrical_2017_English_Win_32_64bit_wi_en-us_Setup.exe which is the application that then downloads the monstrous entirety of the application. The download says it's got 910 days to go, so this may take a bit... 🙂

Antivirus is managed by the IT department, and they won't let us turn it off.

Last one today,

I am about to be done for the day.  If you run out of things to try, jump over to this forum and put a few post AFTER you have run a few searches in that forum for this issue.  Be sure you use the right box to enter you question for the search.  The box at the top will search all forums, the one on the side will search the current forum only.

Good luck

Uninstall, reboot. Download fresh version and install, reboot. Install updates, reboot.

Still won't run. Same problem - no error message/number, nothing to point to the problem.

Is there a log file for the software that might include error information?

I looked in the Windows Event Viewer, Application Logs, and this is the error that gets reported:

Faulting application name: acad.exe, version: 27.0.104.0, time stamp: 0x578db0aa
Faulting module name: acdb21.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x578db2c7
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000007fecaed2b64
Faulting process id: 0x2940
Faulting application start time: 0x01d2a42effcdf08e
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\acad.exe
Faulting module path: acdb21.dll
Report Id: 3d99d3bb-1022-11e7-b01d-cc3d8265252e

Haven't been able to find anything else that relates to my issue (some people reporting errors with License manager, but i've got no error details at all)

Try to update the driver for your graphics card.

Also, might be a corrupt download. Try to download from here: http://autodesk.creativevirtual15.com/autodesk/bot.html?isJSEnabled=1&businessArea=Root.Front%20Desk...

I would also do this: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

Are you disabling the Anti Virus when installing?

Are you installing while logged in as an Administrator?

Does your normal User account have sufficient Access to all the ACAD/ACADE support directories?

Not doing either of the first two can cause problems while not having write access can cause other problems.

I downloaded the software from the Autodesk Virtual Agent. After uninstalling and rebooting, i installed from this file.

Same results - it "stops working" before it even starts.

I am logged in as an administrator, but I cannot disable the antivirus - it is managed by corporate IT.

I updated my nvidia drivers and reinstalled all the C++ packages, but that didn't help either.

Check your task bar.

It may be waiting for you to ACTIVATE the trial.

This pops up in a dialog and sometimes may be hidden by another window or starts minimised.

If you see another Autodesk icon on your task bar, click on it and follow the prompts to activate the software.

As to the Anti-Virus, inform the IT department that AutoCAD (and other major business packages) require the AV software to be disabled during the install.

Most AV programs these days allow for a temporary disabling (for an hour or two) to allow such software to be installed.

Once the software is installed, the AV does not normally cause problems in the execution of these type of programs.
