Insert Connector from List: Custom file creation/examples and custom pin lists

I am in the process of learning AutoCAD Electrical. We use a large amount of Amphenol connectors, with pins A,B...Y,Z,a,b....AA,BB... . How can I create a custom connector with a custom pin list? I would like to avoid needing to copy and pasting the pin list in. In addition, some pins are skipped (L and I, for example).

My goal is to create a custom pin list or use "Insert Connector (From List)", which brings its own confusion. I found in the online help the format for the list, but I don't see where to enter a custom pin list. Any guidance on this would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello @njlonce

Check out this similar post about connectors.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-electrical-forum/component-editing-and-storage/m-p/13167085#M...

Can you provide a part number for the amphenol connector to help us better understand what you looking to draw?

There are parametric connectors that allow to place pins as

required with the help of a dialog box. (Choose number of pins when placing)

And then there are fixed

symbols that you can create for parts that you know won’t change (like a custom symbol with 15 labeled pins)

Let me know which ones of these you want to create and we can try to simplify it further.

Hi, we use quite a bit of parts in the 26482 series by Amphenol/PEI Genesis. One example part number is MS3126F22-55S. The pins are as follows:
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z, AA, BB, CC, DD, EE, FF, GG, HH

This is just one example; one we use has more pins and many others use less pins.

I figured out (I think) the parametric tool. However, I have to manually put the pin list in (i.e. save the full list in a text file/other document on my computer then copy/paste it in).

I was hoping to create these connectors using the parametric tool with the pin list being called via the pin list entry box. Is it possible to call a specific pin list that is saved in the main or custom part database?

Thanks for your reply!

I know the pinlists can be stored in the catalog database for a part number. But I am not fully sure it they automatically filled with parametric connectors.

This post kind of discusses the same:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-electrical-forum/renumbering-parametric-connector-pins-based-...

Quick question: Since it’s a fixed part number and the number of pins won’t change, Can you use custom symbols without using the parametric tool? Or are you looking to use the parametric tool because you will be displaying one connector on multiple sheets?

The link in my first reply discusses using custom symbols with either fixed text or rating attributes.

Hmm, looking at that it doesn't seem possible. It is partially due to using the connector on multiple sheets, but also since there are dozens of different connectors with the same numbering (letting) scheme.

You should consider creating a custom "insert plug" function @arshdeepsingh404 that grabs data from the catalog and gives you the opportunity to select which pins to insert, etc. and show which ones are already in use. Insert as the start/middle/end of a plug/receptacle...
I started on one before I figured out that it isn't my job to improve AcadE. Autodesk gets paid to improve the software, but.. They don't.
