Include Dynamic Block in Bill of Material Counts

Hi there,

Is there a way to include a dynamic block to the Panel Bill of Materials? or do we have to convert to a symbol because BOM report only looks after symbol components.

And if it can't, then is there a way to convert dynamic block to a symbol without losing all the dynamic parameters such as visibility and lookup tables?

I am not trying to link this panel block to the Schematic to avoid complexity or tag audit.

We are working on converting from AutoCAD to AutoCAD Electrical, knowing that there are a lot of traditional panel blocks that we have to convert to Symbols in order for the AE's BOM report to pick up.

Thanks,

As long as you DON'T make any changes dynamic blocks will work.

However, as soon as you make ANY change with a dynamic block, ACADE will stop tracking it.

The reason for this is that when you change the dynamic block, ACAD saves the block as a NEW version of the block with a different name.

As this change is not written into the project database, ACADE stops tracking any changes to the block.

You are probably better off creating the required blocks on an 'As Needed' basis instead of sitting down and converting all the blocks in one long session.

Just make sure to keep the dynamic block tools away from any blocks that are going to be used in ACADE dwgs.
