IEC2/IEC4 - IEC60617 Standards - AutoCAD Electrical

Hi,

Can anyone offer some guidance in regard to the relationship of IEC-2, IEC-4 and the subsequent change to IEC-60617.

I understand that the library symbols comply to these standards. But, we need to have a deeper understanding of it. I have tried using the help tool on AutoCAD Electrical but it doesn't seem to state why we use them?

Any help would be greatly received.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. This has helped. Being relatively new to AutoCAD Electrical I am trying to establish where we save schematic icons and panel footprints? for the file path, in regard to which folder. IEC60617 for schematic icons and for panel footprints??? Not forgetting which standards we need to be complying to.

Thanks.

Matt

You can see the paths for the menus currently in use by your project in Project Settings. Right-click on your project in the project manager and select Settings. This will provide you with the paths to all of the support files. If you're still working with a default install, then that should get you together on where to store things.

So in essence we dictate where to save the information. For example on a local network drive collectively shared.

The IEC-60617 folder is a point of reference and merely shows the standard that the icon/component is complying to. Also helping other users in the direction of where to save the icon/component.

Am I on the right lines?

So far I think you're on the right track. You might also want to take a look at using the .env file, if you're going to share folders on a network with other users. The same website that I linked to earlier in this thread has a write up on that too, although I bet some of the paths it describes have changed over the years. Still, it's a good starting-off point.

Also, see the entry on the .env file in HELP. Most often, ACADE users end up using a combination of path settings in the ACADE profile, along with some targeted pathing selections in the .env file, and maybe even relying on project-specific settings as well, to get the exact result they need. (Relying on project-specific settings might be important if you do work in different libraries, or have to work in a different standard from time to time.)
