How to draw a line perpendicular to another line that is at an angle

Hi, I am creating a toggle switch, sort of an on-off-on. In creating it, I am running across a disconnect I have when drawing in ACAD.

I have a line that is at an angle that I don't know, i want to draw a line perpendicular to it from the midpoint of the original. How do you do this?

You can use the object snap setting Perpendicular. Then you can start your line at the midpoint and draw the line in the direction you want to go. It should 'snap' to be perpendicular.

This is a more traditional way to show a three position toggle.

This is not a symbol I have. I just whipped up the image.

Another thing I just noticed, and slightly off-topic...generally, switches don't have that line you're trying to add to your symbol. Pushbuttons do, but not switches. Most of the time, switches just show the one line, or at most, add a little curved arrow as in Brad's example.

I DO THAT ALL TIME, @$#%

I have no idea why I confuse you and Brad (Iceman) and I'm really sorry. Not as much on noticing details as I thought I was, apparently. But this has got to be the third or fourth time I've done that!

Keep correcting me, it'll eventually get through my thick skull lol
