How to build association between wire layer and wire number?

Hello,

I need to export an Excel Spreadsheet from the AE drawings. The spreadsheet must show the followings.

•The wire layer to which the line belongs.

•The wire number (WIRENO) that identifies the line.

•The start and end coordinates to mark the line length

It turns out the wire numbers are in an independent layer, WIRENO. When we try to filter for the lines, the WIRENO is completely filtered out.

How to build an association between a set of line coordinates and the unique wire number that identifies the line?

I don't have the leisure to download your dwg and xls files right now. But a quick glance at the spreadsheet I linked for you previously tells me that wire number, wire layer, and coordinates are all options in From/To, Cable From/To, and Panel Wire Con reports. Those are the reports to start investigating.

Where are you trying to extract these coordinates from? from schematics or panel draiwngs?

Why would anyone try to extract wire start/end coordinates from the panel drawing Ramesh?

The association between the wire number block and the wire/line is stored in XDATA on these objects. You need to create some custom code to extract and match up this information into an excel sheet.

You should also be able to find this information in the project database, but you'd still need to make some custom code to interpret it.

Again, it sounds like your boss wants you to do magic with AutoCAD Electrical without even giving you proper training.

Hi Trond, 

I unfortunately have to flood the forum with questions. Our company is supposed to have 5 hr of free training from ATG USA based off the annual maintenance fee we pay them. But it turned out to be very unhelpful; none of my questions are answered in two training meetings, not even the easy ones. 

For now, I have to just roll with the punches. Since we are on limited budget and still in the early stages of conversion from AutoCAD to AutoCAD Electrical. I am currently the only user.

Hi Trond,

I've checked out your linked video long time ago. I was aware you are an elite expert in the forum who tries to push AutoDesk to improve their product services.

Unfortunately, most mid-size and even mega-size companies are stuck with AutoCAD. They have a huge catalog of AutoCAD drawings. They cannot simply "sink" the AutoCAD ship and board another ship. It's impossible to pay two separate subscriptions or redraw all of the AutoCAD drawings. At least, I am only good enough to obey orders and get work done as much as possible. Again, I have to just roll with AutoCAD.

But again, going from plain AutoCAD to an "intelligent" AcadE project will take a redraw anyway.

And, (almost) all competing product both reads and write DWG...

Hi Trond,

I agree with you. The problem is our department is not at the position to buy or test out any new drafting software; that is for upper management to decide. I don't know why the company wouldn't consider other options. And I am too low-ranked to do anything but obey orders.
