How can I remove Blocks Palette in AutoCAD 2020?

I just switched to AutoCAD 2020 and I want to remove or disable the Blocks Palette and only use the dialogue box for insert blocks. I find it is much faster and cleaner than using the space-hog Blocks Palette.

Is there anything that I can do to go back to the better way of inserting block?

Hi @Anonymous,

If you know the name of the block, you can use the command line version of INSERT, which is -INSERT. As always, keep in mind that regular AutoCAD blocks will function differently than AutoCAD Electrical components.

Is this AutoCAD Electrical 2020? As far as I know this is not even released yet and the Blocks Palette tool did not work at all for electrical block inserts. Can you tell us if it works and did they add a clipboard tab to it? ;-)

I have AutoCAD Electrical 2020 available for download and have had it from a few days after AutoCAD 2020 became available.

I guess our company has decided not to renew our subscription or I'm out of the loop 😞  anyway did they make the new blocks palette tool work with electrical? I saw a lot of potential for this tool especially if they add a clipboard tab that manages copy to clipboard blocks and circuits.

The circuit clipboard already is capable of copying blocks that are part of a circuit. Be aware that using a non-ACADE tool to copy symbols prevents ACADE from properly managing the data tied to them.

Last Night, actually, a coworker recommended creating a command alias for CLASSICINSERT. I think that will give me what I want!

It is AutoCAD Electrical 2020, and it sort of works with electrical blocks. You have to insert the block as a regular block and then edit the component... you are still better off using Icon Menu.

There isn't a clipboard, but you do have a recent tab, and other drawing tab that allows you to load a drawing with the blocks that you want quick access to. Personally, I will stick to ClassicInsert for my blocks that are not Electrical.

Yes it does but it is limited to a single clip. Just think how Awesome the blocks palette tool would be if you could save more than one to the palette.

You need to edit the program parameters for 'I' from INSERT TO CLASSICINSERT.

I have to agree. I absolutely hate the new block palette. It was so much faster to be able to hit insert block, pick the drawing from explorer & be done. I insert several custom blocks hourly & don't need more added steps.

AutoCAD 2023 has the command Insert Block - Classic which brings up the old dialog box.  Much better.
