Export to CSV, import failure

I’m having an issue with importing from an .xls file after exporting from the same project. Workflow that I have had work is this, export Panel Components from project, open it up in Excel, modify the Item Numbers values, save, import back into project.
If I attempt to sort the excel file, to make the editing I do easier, then importing back into ACADE does not work. ACADE allows it, it just doesn’t modify any of the information that I changed in the excel file.
Are there certain things that you cannot do with an exported .xls file that cause the import to not work as described above?

Yes - don't sort or otherwise change the data's organization. The reason it isn't getting imported back in, is because none of the data is in the location the software expects it to be. Don't add headers either. Manipulate the data as it is, and import back the same way, or it will pretty much always fail at import after you edit.

Thank you for the response here. Additionally I have seen that if I export the COMPONENT .xls and then go in and edit the ITEM numbers, if I decide to leave ANY of the ITEM numbers BLANK, the import doesn't change anything in the project as well. I have also tried to import and only update a the active sheet, the same thing occurs. Is this normal as well?
