Changing Component TAG caused lose of work.

I created a connector with breaks.  12 pins with 4 breaks in total.  I aligned in a vertical line.  I did not want to see the repeated TAG on the child parts so desided to use "Link Components with Dashed Line".   This got rid of the TAG on child parts, but did not link with a dashed line.  So I drew lines between the  breaks and changed to dots.  All looked good.

I then gave 7 of the used pins a discription "GND" and then moved on to another connector to name 17 pins.   All looking great.

Because I had deleated a previous connector "X5" which was previously the 12 pin connector, not now needed I changed the tag of the new 12 pin connector with breaks from "X15" to "X5".  On doing this I noticed that all the work I had done naming pins was no longer visable and the broken connector had all TAGs back on the children and basicly I had stepped back to earlier work.  I tried going back with Undo, but the undo only went back further, and not to the previous command.  

Another anomaly I noticed is that after using the Link Components on the connector with breaks, I could not move the attribute Discription, which needed moving.  It would highlight and stay highlighted and even ESC would not unhighlight.  The only way of unhighlighting after ESC is to select again and ESC.

Having lost some work I checked "Automatic save" settings and found to be on with 10 min saves and create backup copy with each save ticked.  The file extension for "temporary files" is ac$.  If I look in the Temp file location I find that there are far fewer drawings auto saved than one might expect.  For instance today alone only 4 files in Temp.  3 are AutoCAD Temporary Files and only 1 is a AutoCAD Autosave Drawing.  None of these 4 files were created during the period of work sometime after 8 this morning and about 9.35 when I had the issues.  Obviously best practice is to save as you go, but any ideas as to why there are so little Auto save drawings?

I will start with the simplest one first.

You have to be careful relying on "Autosave" to protect you.

While it is set to 10 minutes, most people do not  realize that is 10 "active" minutes.

For example, say you have 6 dwgs open and only actively work on each one for 9 minutes.

If you crash after working for 54 minutes, you will lose all changes done since each dwg did not hit its 10 minute mark for autosave to happen.

I personally have mine set to 5 minutes and try to save often.

Now, on to the Parent/Child(ren).

If you want to link the Parent to the children, both symbols will need the following attributes (This assumes NFPA).

X2Link (On top)
X8LINK (On bottom)

For IEC, the links are

X4LINK(Left)

X1LINK(Right)

With these attributes in your symbols, they will link up properly.
