Attributes with spaces - why does this work?

Greetings,

I have been doing Autocad for over 20 years and I have never seen this. This Rev Block was in with a client's title block. I was trying to set it up for Title Block Update when I realized that there are spaces in the attribute tags. Is this possibly because it was imported from Microstation or SolidWorks or another program. These shouldn't work.
