ACAD Electrical 2019 Stealing Focus

This problem seems to be back with the new ACADE 2019, with the difference that none of the old tricks seem to work to make this issue disappear.

Running ACADE 2019 Product version 16.0.49.0, on windows 10.

-no content service running at services.msc

-ForegroundLockTimeout set to 100000 decimal in registry

Anyone have ideas on where to look?

What exactly are you looking for?

What 'old tricks' do you mean?

Hi!

I originally posted in this thread:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/acad-2017-stealing-focus-please-make-it-stop/td-p/64220...

, and by old tricks i was referring to the suggested fixes in that post, that were the constantly crashing Autodesk Content service that was trying to restart itself, but it is not even used anymore i guess, as i could not find it in services.msc.

another trick was to hack registry value:

  1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  2. On the right side of the window, double-click ForegroundLockTimeout

,and set it to for example decimal 100000, which worked in some occasions, but in this case i am still losing focus (its intermittent, not happening all the time)

I have currently installed ACADE2018 and ACADE2019, and this is seems to be only affecting 2019 version, as 2018 still runs fine.

Ok, I read that thread and got caught up. I can't really offer much here, because like others I tend to find other things to do when I have to publish. My job requires me to do lots more than just use ACADE, so I can always find things to do down in the shop while waiting on the software. That said, if that weren't an option for me, I'd be banging the s**t out of this drum. I've never liked how it steals focus. I've experienced all the same problems mentioned in the original thread. I hate them all. I just haven't been forced to deal with it yet because I can find easy ways to avoid it.

About all I can add is, just remember that ACADE is little more than Vanilla ACAD with some extra functions thrown in. For the most part, any issue that isn't specific to electrical functions is shared with other ACAD verticals. This is one, I think. And to that end, the odds are that any solution will more likely be found on the Vanilla forum, where there are many more users to participate in the discussion.

However, we can maybe give a shout out and at least learn if this issue is, in fact, logged at Autodesk.
@Anonymous ...can you add anything to this? (TIA)

Jim

Jim, I am currently out of the office so I can't try this right now. This is out of my area of expertise of using AutoCAD Electrical but I will see what I can find out when I get back to the office next week.

Thanks, Pat. I have a renewed interest in this topic, now that I've learned one of my coworkers using standard ACAD would really like to find a solution to this. Thanks for any help you can offer.

As you suspected this is base AutoCAD functionality that AutoCAD Electrical inherits. I did confirm with product support that it is logged. You can also post on the AutoCAD discussion group. You might also want to log the issue yourself at  manage.autodesk.com. This might give you more of an opportunity to state how it affects your ability to do your work, how many people, etc.

Pat
