.las files are not supported by civil3d (that i know of)

you will need a GIS program to convert them to something civil3d can work with

and i have no ideal how to do that.

sorry, you have gone beyond my limits of knowledge.

do you have a GIS person in your office? i suggest you ask them for help

LAS Files can be used in a Point Cloud.

Select Point Clouds, Right Click and Create

And then once you have your point cloud created, you can add THAT to the surface definition.  Depending upon the lidar density, you may want to simplify the surface (otherwise there may be a HUGE number of very tiny triangles).

ok, i need to break this down to its simpliests parts:

i have:

a point cloud consisting of 2 .las files

a 3d surface generated from said .las files

a created surface called bray rd east which is presumably empty.

how do i put this point cloud, or this 3d surface into bray rd east (surface definition somehow?

Step 1:  Follow the instrustions that @rl_jackson provided above to create a point cloud.

Step 2:  Add the point cloud created in step 1 to your new surface (Bray Rd).  See the following link.

Just for future knowledge, there's no need to put your images in a word document file AND doing so makes it so that SOME people will be unable to view them (not everyone has MS Word).

You can create/save your images using MSPaint which comes standard with Windows (I save mine in PNG format).

Once you have an image file, you can attach it INLINE (so that it's seen in the actual message) which makes it easier to follow.  I say "easier to follow" because you can say "in this picture......." and show the picture -- then below that, you can refer to ANOTHER picture.
