Up and Down stair display differently in AutoCAD Architecture

This is driving me crazy.  The two stairs in the attached file are the exact same stair...except one is set UP and the other is set DOWN.  Literally drew one and copied it and changed the vertical orientation and reset the elevation.

Risers at the landing SHOULD be the same.  I don't care if they are offset or lined up....just need them the same.

Start of stair and arrow of direction of travel should be opposite, but they should line up.

I need to be able to show the full bottom run for a stair detail sheet so it's not good enough to have a cutline at the default 3'-6" and pretend that the two plans match.

Hi @twallVCXPH,

Thank you for posting your drawing file for clarity.

The landing is calculated different based on where the stair is grown from the top (Vertical Orientation = Down), as opposed to when it is grown from the bottom (Vertical Orientation = Up). The result seems to differ more when the number of stairs above and below the landing are not evenly split.

Here is what your two stairs look like in section. Note that the starting point for each stair lies along the same vertical line, which causes the stair to shift due to the uneven stair count on either side of the landing:

You can ensure consistency between your two stair objects by doing this instead:

  • Create a copy of the first stair object.
  • Leave the Vertical Orientation setting the same for both objects (Up or Down, as long as they match).
  • In the Properties palette, adjust the Elevation of the second stair object so that it moves the floor above or below (whichever it belongs on).

If you're working in multiple levels, you may want to consider using Project Navigator to manage the different levels of your project, if you're not already using it.

That doesn't work at all.  I need the stairs to be the SAME tops, bottoms and landings but to show properly if they are up or down.

Hi @twallVCXPH,

I'm sorry to hear that doesn't work for you. Could you explain your workflow in a bit more detail so that we can understand better why you need one stair's Vertical Orientation set to Up and the other's set to Down? Why doesn't the workflow I recommended work for you?

At the moment, the program doesn't work the way you'd like it to, but I encourage you to provide your feedback to request a change to the feature via the Autodesk Product Feedback Form. This feedback goes directly to the product team.
