I was trying to get the navcube back onto my screen and must have hit a button so that the ucs appears every time I select an object.  I am hoping for instructions on how to remove it?  Thank you.

From your description I think it is actually the 3D move Gizmo that is in the way. Set DEFAULTGIZMO to 3.

From help: DEFAULTGIZMO

Type:Integer
Saved in:Not-save
Initial value:0

Sets the 3D Move, 3D Rotate, or 3D Scale gizmo as the default during subobject selection.

0The 3D Move gizmo is displayed by default when an object is selected in a 3D visual style.
1The 3D Rotate gizmo is displayed by default when an object is selected in a 3D visual style.
2The 3D Scale gizmo is displayed by default when an object is selected in a 3D visual style.
3No gizmo is displayed by default when an object is selected in a 3D visual style.

THANK YOU LOL.  It's been bugging me for a few days and then I couldn't remember if it was always there or not... But I knew it couldn't be so, I'd remember it bothering me this much.

I went to the view ribbon in AutoCAD 2014 and in the visual styles section selected "2D wireframe" in the drop-down menu and it worked.

Enter DEFAULTGIZMO at the command line.  Enter the numerical value you want.

This will change the value of the system variable that controls the appearance of the Gizmo.
