Sheet Set/Directory Renaming issue...

ACA 2016

Ok, this is my own fault, but...

We use LogMeIn to transfer files back and forth from the office. It works great and I highly recommend it.  One of the features in its File Transfer section is 'Synchronize', whereby it shows you two windows: the computer you're working on, and the remote computer...in my case, home & work. The idea is to make sure the directory shown in each window is the same. Then you hit 'Sync' and the folders update and the most recent files populate each side and then your directories match. I'll transfer my client project home, open Autocad, re-path and I'm off and running. When I'm done, I'll Sync it back to work and am ready for the next day. Works great.

Tonight I made an error, but it turns out it's actually what I want...I just need to figure out how to make it show up in ACAD.   I renamed my ConDoc Subset in my Sheet Set to, say, ConDoc Phase 1. Then I clicked on the Explorer View in the Sheet tab and made sure I renamed the actual folder to match. When I did that, it asked if I wanted to re-path and I said yes and it did just fine. Now my Sheet Set Subset and subsequent Directory both had the same new name. After a while, I synced to work and forgot about that renaming thing I just described.  Now what I have is two direcories in the File Explorer view: ConDoc Phase 1, and ConDoc (which populated from my work when I sync'd).

At first I gasped, but this is actualy what I want. I ultimately needed two ConDoc directories & Sheet Sets. The problem is that the one that came over from the office, "ConDoc", doesn't show up in the Sheet Set, only the Explorer View. There are about 35 sheets and I want them to populate the Sheet Set... Is there a way to do this? I don't want to have to delete them all, and then re-create all the exact same sheets. I need two identical Sheet Set Subsets each having a different name. Please tell me this is possible!!!

Thanks,

Scott

Are you refering just the sheets tab of the project navigator or do you need to add constructs and views as well?

This is really a duplicate sheet set. I want to use all the same constructs & views. I'll substitute different constructs & views as needed, but it will remain the same for the most part.

Thanks,

Scott

It is pretty easy to add the sheets to the project navigator but it probably will not be happy about the redundant view names on the sheet. I don't have time to test this right now but it may break the naming and numbering links with the existing view drawings view drawings.  I would test with a single drawing first.

On the sheet tab create a new subset where you want to store the drawings.

Next right click on the subset and select Import Layout as Sheet.  In the dialog box that appears select browse for drawings, navigate to were the drawings are stored and select them all at once. Check the drawings you want to appear.  At the bottom of the dialog box uncheck Prefix sheet titles with file name and then select the Import Checked button.

I believe you will then have to use Rename and Renumber to remove the sheet number from the sheet title and add it to the number field.

Hope this helps

Hi @BBP-Arch,

Did @jcp's suggestion help you figure this out?

This isn't really a recommended workflow, but I agree with the idea that you may want to test this with one sheet/view/construct first, before you commit to combining the two project iterations in this manner.

Thanks for the input. I'll try that and see what happens and report back.
