Setting viewport scale using zoom and pan w/o it stopping on set scales

Is it possible to use the zoom and pan functions in a viewport to change the scale without it stopping on all the set scales?  I would like to show some 3D models in the layout box but just want to fit them inside with zoom and scroll to look they way I want it to look when printed without having it jump to scale.

I like using viewport to show my model, 3D floorplans, so it saves the view and I can easily print a .pdf file, only I find it difficult to get the exact view I want when I  zoom in modelspace without it clicking up and down to set viewport scales.

Unless your viewport is locked you should be able to freely pan and zoom within the viewport.

Check you PSVPSCALE setting:

Certainly.

If you have a wheel mouse, you can zoom with the wheel.  Or, you can use the ZOOM command or the ZOOM commands on the NAVBAR.

Thanks for help everyone.  I am using the wheel on my mouse and it is not free flowing zoom.  I'm thinking maybe it is my mouse.  When zooming in and out, it jumps to different scales, for instance on my communication center it shows a 0.33671 scale, then I zoom up it clicks to 0.389939 and once more it clicks to 0.557056.  I would like it to not jump up but be able to set exactly to a scale +/- those values.

I did try the psvpscale you suggested and set it to 0.  It was on .02 so thought maybe that was it.  But, It didn't change anything so maybe I just need a better mouse.  I also tried changing the number thinking I could just type in a value in properties palette but did not let me.

Old autocad 2000, my father had years ago, used to do it.  You could type in any decimal value in the communication center area.

While model space is active in a viewport, use the ZOOM command.  At the command line, at the first prompt, you can type 1.01X to increase the magnification slightly, or 0.99X to decrease the magnification slightly (note the "X" at the end of the scaling factor).  If that is too small of an increment, you can try 1.05X amd 0.95X, or 1.1X and 0.9X. or any other number you choose.

Or, if typing numbers is not your thing, try the Realtime option of the ZOOM command.  The cursor will change to a magnifying glass with a + and a - symbol.  Left click and drag your mouse upward to zoom in; left click and drag your mouse downward to zoom out.  That should give you the smooth change in ZOOM that you seek.

Think what you're looking for is the right mouse button; hold it and move the mouse back and forward, this will smoothly zoom in/out.

Was running into the same issue 😉
