Screen keeps flickering up and down in AutoCAD Architecture

Similar to my previous post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-architecture-forum/autocad-architecture-2017-screen-flashing/...

This issue is happening again, but instead of a flashing screen, the bottom bar keeps adjusting (up and down, up and down). I selected Dock Inline with Status Bar and after I zoom, it automatically changes back to Dock Above Status Bar. AutoCAD won't save the Dock Inline with Status Bar setting. What should I do?

When docked in-line with the Status Bar, the Model/Layout tabs will automatically shift above when the items on the Status Bar grow too wide to fit with the tabs in-line.  To stop this shifting, you can:

  • Have fewer Layout tabs in your file.
  • Use shorter names on the Layout Tabs.
  • Turn off the display of Status Bar tools.  Are there any you never really use?  The Coordinates tool is one that will dynamically resize as the cursor moves, and may be the driver behind the ever-shifting Model/Layout tab location.
  • Set a monitor resolution that allows for more horizontal pixels.  (Or, use a different monitor with more horizontal pixels.)
  • Use multiple monitors, and stretch the AutoCAD Architecture window across more than one of them, making the window wide enough to accommodate all of the Status Bar tools you have turned on and all of the Model/Layout tabs in one row without causing a shift.
  • Permanently dock the Model/Layout tabs above the Status Bar.  (This will not eliminate the possibility of a flash, as you may be able to turn on enough Status Bar tools to have the Status Bar itself jump between one row and two rows of tools as the Coordinates tool gets narrower or wider.)
  • Turn off the display of the Model/Layout tabs and hover over the drawing tab to choose a specific Model/Layout.  (I put this last as it would be my last choice.)

When docked in-line with the Status Bar, the Model/Layout tabs will automatically shift above when the items on the Status Bar grow too wide to fit with the tabs in-line.  To stop this shifting, you can:

Blue: Complete Red: Not Complete, Strike through: Couldn't do.

  • Have fewer Layout tabs in your file. (Having this issue with only two tabs open: Model, Work.)
  • Use shorter names on the Layout Tabs. (Layout tabs are shortly named, max. 5 letters each.)
  • Turn off the display of Status Bar tools. (I’m not sure if this is on.) Are there any you never really use? (I removed a lot I don’t use.) The Coordinates tool is one that will dynamically resize as the cursor moves and may be the driver behind the ever-shifting Model/Layout tab location. (Turned off coordinates, I don’t need.)
  • Set a monitor resolution that allows for more horizontal pixels.  (Or, use a different monitor with more horizontal pixels.) (My pixel resolution is at its highest: 1920x1080.)
  • Use multiple monitors and stretch the AutoCAD Architecture window across more than one of them, making the window wide enough to accommodate all of the Status Bar tools you have turned on and all of the Model/Layout tabs in one row without causing a shift. (Can’t do.)
  • Permanently dock the Model/Layout tabs above the Status Bar.  (This will not eliminate the possibility of a flash, as you may be able to turn on enough Status Bar tools to have the Status Bar itself jump between one row and two rows of tools as the Coordinates tool gets narrower or wider.) (It looks like I’m going to have to try the: permanently dock the Model/Layout tabs above the Status Bar)
  • Turn off the display of the Model/Layout tabs and hover over the drawing tab to choose a specific Model/Layout.  (I put this last as it would be my last choice.) (I’d like to give this a try, where would I find this feature?)
  •  After the adjustments (in Blue) I've added a screenshot of what I still get when zooming in and out, with dock inline with status bar. It still goes up and down. I'll give the permanently dock tabs above the status bar a try. Will still have the blank space above status bar tools and below the type a command bar.

While I know that the Model/Layout tabs will jump up when it appears (to me, anyway) that there is still plenty of room between the tabs and the Status Bar tools, from what you show on your image in your latest post, I would be shocked to hear that if you docked the tabs in line that you still experienced jumping.  I do not see any tools that would significantly change in width as you work, and there is a boatload of space between the Model and Work tabs and the leftmost Status Bar tool.

Docking them permanently above will have the blank space above, but at least the screen will not flash while dynamically resizing.  If you want, you can move the Command line down over that blank space by holding the CTRL key down as you move the Command line, to prevent it from docking.

If you have Drawing Tabs turned on (use the FILETAB command to turn them on; FILETABCLOSE to turn them off), you can hover your mouse cursor over the tab to get a drop down showing the Model and Layout tabs.  You can then move your mouse down over them to get a full-AutoCAD-window preview of the tab under the mouse and you can left click one to make it the active tab.2018-06-12_ACA2018_HoverOverDwgTabs_Model-Layouts.png

I use the FILETABS quite often. Doing the feature you gave me, moving the command line by holding the CTRL key down, will work. Like mentioned, I placed it over the blank space. Thank you for all your help.

I have found that completely closing out the floating side menus (the ones that you can dock), helps this and also helps AutoCAD run more efficiently. I experienced this in 2013 and now in 2019.

I think I have a better solution to this, my flickering was bad, Layouts tabs jumping up and down like crazy.

Tried all the tips provided in a number of posts, problem improved but never really went away.  Long story short, a colleague asked what my W10 display "Scale and layout" was set at, his was 100%, mine was 150% (I have a 32" 4K screen).  I changed my setting back to 100%, jumping problem solved.  As all my icons were teeny weeny I decided to change the setting back to 150%, and Walla! no jumping and flickering.

So I believe it is a windows display setting problem, not a ACAD problem.  Changing the setting and reverting back seems to have reset something.

Hope this helps someone.

Same problem with 4K Displays. I use the large buttons in the toolbars. Scale and layout in Windows settings was allready on 100%.

So my solution was to switch off OPTIONS--Display--Layout elements--Display Layout and Model tabs

Thank you David and everyone who tried to help in this issue, years ago, since I upgraded from AutoCAD 2014, I noticed this change of moving layout tabs and the issue of screen jump, I'e tried all your options and suggestions, nothing works unless turning off all status bar tools or getting a super wide screen.. but excuse me guys for what I will say, I can't believe trying all these fruitless solutions but not saying that Autodesk has failed in that and was no reason at all of moving layout tabs from above command bar (just below drafting screen in AutoCAD 2014 and older which was the best ever) and messing up in that as in many other changes are just for the sake of change nothing else (I have a huge list of changes that did never improve or ease the process which I'm going to address later). With my appreciation to all improvements that Autodesk does .. but for me, this tab location change was a big fail, I switched back to 2014 for a few years just because of this reason but eventually I had to move ahead to be in line with my coworkers.

@ragheednakkash

They gave the ability to put them in-line, but you do not have to keep them there.  Move them back above the Status Bar by right clicking on one of the Model/Layout tabs and choose Dock above Status Bar from the context menu.  If I had to work with a lot of layouts in one file and/or had all or nearly all of the tools on the Status Bar turned on, that would be what I would do.

i just decide to looked this up after bothering me for a while. even i dock the sheet tab and filetabclose still does this. better if i turn the coordinates off. which for what i do i need it on all the time.

on these 4k 15.6 inch dell laptop it does this and on 32 inch 4k monitors in office no problem at all. these 4k laptop one must set the text scaling in windows to 150%, i tried 100% and then i think it got rid of the jumping up and down sheettab problem. so it definitely have to do with the way autocad user interface is programmed. we are using 2019 versions civil 3d /autocad and the older ones doesn't even scale icons and text right. so must be a work in progress. i haven't played with 2020 much but hopefull that is addressed to work with screen scaling.

Experienced similar; the culprit is actually the autowrap of the status bar

set STATUSBARAUTOWRAP = OFF to fix the actual issue

I found a solution that worked for my new Architecture 21 install. Dock the model tab bar and reduce the number of option on the status bar to create more space. Finally stopped jumping!

Thanks David this worked better for me in MEP 2021. Multiple Layouts in one drawing is a pain without quick access......

Adjusting the Precision under UNIT to remove numbers following the zeros did the trick for me. The coordinates field was the culprit in my case.
