scaling problem using autocad 2017 plans opened in architecture 2018

Hi,

I wondered if anyone could help?

I seem to have a constant problem when opening any plans from a client. Their plans are completed in autocad 2017. When I open them in architecture 2018 They look fine, if I put a dimension anywhere its ok but when I use any of my walls, for example, out of my tools palette they are at the wrong scale and much smaller.

When I type 'units' its shows inches but the client has shown me screengrabs on their system and its clearly been done in mm.

I've changed the units to mm, chosen the options of rescale modelspace only. Which makes everything bigger, scaled down by 0.0393700787 (1/25.4) which isn't 100% accurate but near enough, but then all the dimensions are larger, which I need to change and any room labels move position which I need to move back.

The slightly quicker solution I've found is that if I just copy and paste everything from the 2017 plan into a new architecture modelspace i don't need to scale anything, i.e it pastes them at the right scale then I have to import the layouts and re-position everything. This is a bit quicker but still feels like a waste of time

I've looked on the forum and apogise if its been asked before. I've seen similar things and tried them but end up making it worse!

Any help is appreciated!

To check drawing units you use -DWGUNITS command (there is a dash in the name), "units" doesn't do it, plus you need to check your dimstyle setting too.

Share one of those original 2017 DWG files here with us please, plus one of your 2018 DWG files that you tried to fix/dimension, lets see what you see.

Or continue with the excellent fix you opted to use too.

In #1, a door I selected at random on a floor plan measures 689.930 units wide.
In #2, the same exact door measures 57'-5 11/16" units wide.

Doing the math you both are off by 12 to start with (we'll get to the door size at some other time).

Is there a known dimension anywhere? You can fix it all with ALIGN command.

Then pick up the phone, call your client, ask about the discrepancy and sizes of the things they drafted and, in this case, door width sizes. They have something very unusual going on over there, assuming they are not just randomly converting pre-purchased content done in mm then badly converting then passing it along to you.
