I've drawn a line to a specific length. When I select the line, and look at the properties bar, it tells me it's a different length. When I dimension it, it's dimensioned correctly. The z-axis is not changed. I have no idea how to correct this - I thought "properties" was my bible! Help!
What are your current units settings in that drawing? To what precision are linear units set? The Properties palette will use the current units setting when displaying values; your dimension style may have a different precision setting. From the image you posted, it appears that your drawing units are set to round to the nearest whole number (one inch).
