polyline help

Hello everyone,

I don't have a problem I am just looking for more than text book information.  I have been an architectural draftsman journeyperson since 2011.  I learned on 2002 and spent about 1 year on 2009.  In all the time I have been drawing I have only used polyline on three occasions.  2 times on 2009 and most recently last week in an architectural drafting class.  I wanted to get familiar with 2018.  I was just wondering what polylines are used for.  In the text it says among other things that it makes multiple line segments that are one object.  But reading the forums about them it seems that they are being used somehow to calculate area.  I have always used the area command (MEASUREGEOM) to do this.  What am I missing.  any knowledge will be helpful.

Polylines are best used when you need:
all the lines that make up a piolyline to always be connected together (think area outline for example, or lines of ductwork or power lines that go from a source to a detination etc.).
OR
when you want to give a set of lines a very exact width.
OR
both the above.

hi my friend

Polylines are a set of interconnected straight and curved lines that will help you in many ways and that you can use for the following.
In 2D drawings, they can be used as a path to an array. Or the placement of a hatch is the most appropriate option for the area in which the hatch is subject to their form and if change a polylines form (which is easily possible) the hatch will automatically take the new form and This makes it very easy for you.
In 3D drawing with the help of a closed polyline, you can easily create a new 3D model or place a polyline on the surface of a 3D model with the help of specialized 3D editing tools on that model. All of this happens with the editing of every single line segment that allows you to switch from straight line to curved line and vice versa, as well as adding or subtracting the number of lines at any one time.
You will understand these only when you are involved in crowded and detailed drawings (both 2D and 3D)
Of course 2D polyline is limited to x-y plan, but you can draw a polyline somewhere else by introducing a new UCS, for example on the surface of a Sloping roof.
