If the tip above did not work: what is your mouse driver setting for that middle mouse button?

Me too.  Was working fine 2 days ago, now I lost the ability to pan with the thumb or middle mouse button.  Using AutoCAD 2017 and MS Surface Pro 4.  I am guessing a driver update hosed that much needed function

Hi @Anonymous,

Which operating system are you running ACA 2017 on?

What is the make and model of the mouse you're using?

Have you recently updated any drivers?

If you try a different mouse, does the same issue occur?

Here is an article from the Autodesk Knowledge Network that may help you troubleshoot the issue from within AutoCAD.

Here are Microsoft's recommendations for troubleshooting mouse button and scroll settings, which may be a good place to start troubleshooting the device itself.

Your mouse has a mouse driver: the mouse driver controls the middle button settings. What is your mouse driver setting for the middle button?

If you don't have a mouse driver then Windows is running the mouse and this problem would not exist if you have MBUTTONPAN variable inside AutoCAD turned on.

Hi and thanks for responding,

Mouse driver is set to “middle button” (see image below)

Have tried the mbuttonpan variable both ways and does not help.

I have a Microsoft Laser Mouse at my other computer and I am having no
problems.

I put new batteries in the mouse.

Setup:

Surface Pro 4, i7, 512GB hard drive

Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000

Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000

AutoCAD 2017

Windows 10, Pro, 64-bit

Also, I uninstalled the mouse driver “Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center”
(below), and it restored limited functionality to the pan command, but
still not working right… the pan icon appears sporadically.

Thank-you very much,

No image attached, sorry. What other choices are available like AUTOSCROLL? See this oldie tip http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-general-discussion/wireless-mouse-5000-not-panning-issue/m-...

Is there a "compatibility" or "exclusion" option you can add AutoCAD to?

I uninstalled all software (MS Mouse & Keyboard Center) and mice and restarted my Surface as in here (from 2010):

Is this mouse also running with a keyboard driver installed? YES: https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/d/wireless-mouse-5000

Try this test: remove your mouse drivers and restart Windows without them. Windows is now running your mouse. Start AutoCAD and try to pan after you check to ensure MBUTTONPAN variable is on: is it working now?

Tried MBUTTONPAN both ways to no avail.

In the mouse and keyboard software, i have the left side button set to "Middle Click".  There is no Auto-Scroll, as there used to be.  Very frustrating.  The beauty of using my thumb for panning is that it is very easy, fast, and prevents fatigue.  Any other ideas?

OK, issue resolved. Updated Surface (don't think that this was the problem).  The I had an app specific setting for AutoCAD pan command... deleted it.  Use "Middle Click" for the left mouse button.  Yea!

Going to control panel/mouse, and assigning the wheel button (middle button) to "middle button" (where you have tried "none" and "universalscroll") on the buttons tab. I hope this would help you if not then fix your error with another method written in Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 Manual

Just happened to me too, no mouse wheel button panning. Having looked through all the above to no avail, I tried disconnecting the mouse and plugging into a different USB. Works a treat. KISS Tech 🙂
