missing tools in tool palette

Upgraded to 2018 Architecture.  All went fine except the new format was going to cause too many problems for consultants.  We decided to go to 2017.  When I installed 2017 my custom tool palettes loaded fine, but no tools inside.  When I look in Customize palettes everything shows up in both the palettes and the palette group.  I thought maybe its just the image not showing up, but there's no text inside of the tool pallet. Any Ideas?

did you create the TPs in 2018? They don't usually migrate "down", just "up". You will need to recreate them.

Sorry, the current release we're working with is release 2016 Architecture.  I'm trying to get the tools palettes to work on 2017.

Hi @dhassler,

It sounds like you've created a set of tool palettes in AutoCAD Architecture 2016, and you're trying to migrate them to AutoCAD Architecture 2017, but they don't show up properly. Is this correct?

If so, how are you migrating them? Via the Content Browser?

You may want to review the following two articles, which might be helpful in getting your tool palettes to show up properly:

Hi @dhassler,

I'm just checking in again to see if you need more help with this. Did the suggestions I provided yesterday work for you?

Unfortunately these did not help.  The Content Browser has the custom tool palette catalog.  The catalog has the tool palettes.  The tool palettes show in the tool palette window in the drawing.  When you open the custom tool palette in the drawing, the different tabs and labels are there, they're just empty.  Its a tab that should have several tools, but shows nothing.

The first time I open the Content Browser there are no errors.  The next time I open the browser it states"The catalog you are trying to access"\\OFFICE\Users\Documents\ACA cannot be loaded or is not a correct file format".  The problem with this statement is that that path does not exist.  It makes no sense.  Nothing in "Files" tells ACA to go to this location.  I've repeatedly checked the file locations.  These locations work fine on 2016.

Hi @dhassler,

I'm sorry to hear these suggestions didn't help. There are a couple of known causes for the particular error you're encountering here:

You can only open the Content Browser once on a machine.

  • If you try to open a second instance, that error will appear: "The catalog you are trying to access...".
  • Check first to make sure the Content Browser is not still open, but hidden behind something else, or located on a secondary monitor.

One or more of the content packs did not install correctly, and the files are missing from the installation.

  • The same error will appear, and list the location of the content.
  • Check the content folders to ensure the content packs you've installed are present. Default location: C:\Program Data\Autodesk\ACA 20XX\enu\AECContent\
  • If the content is missing from this location, you need to reinstall the content packs or copy them from a working machine.

Finally, it looks like the path you've listed doesn't designate a particular drive. Do you use redirected user folders? This could be causing the problem.

The Content Browser must have been opened.

I looked in the Content Browser and the main palettes are there with the individual palettes underneath.  When I open a specific palette, it's empty.  The picture below shows the tool palettes.  The next picture shows if I open up the individual palette.  It's empty.  When I look at the customize palettes dialog box it shows all of the tools palettes.

Is there something that needs to be converted when going from 2016 to 2017 for the tool palettes to work?

Hi @dhassler,

I think we're getting a little closer to an answer here.

I found another user who describes the same issue. The thread is a bit older (April 2009), but the cause of the problem is straightforward, and should be easy for you to verify if it applies to your custom tool palettes.

Let me know if the solution listed in that thread helps!

Not sure I understand.  The original guy wrote "/" you mentioned "\".  Not sure if it matters.  How do you not have a "\" in your path?  Or am I missing the direction given?  Here's the path I'm using

Hi @dhassler,

Sorry about that. I've edited my previous post to reflect the correct symbol - it was my own typo.

Additionally, what happens if you bump your custom location displayed in your screenshot from last to first in the list?

Hi @dhassler,

Did this latest suggestion I provided help at all? Or are you still seeing blank tool palettes in your custom Content Browser catalog?

I think I've found what has happened.  First all of your suggestions are greatly appreciated and helped to get where I'm at now.  The problem I beleive is that other people have put this together.  Unfortunately those people are no longer here.  I believe they have created multiple palettes and did not date or placed in clear folders to let someone know which ones to use.  Some work and some don't I'm going through it now to figure this out.  I'm thinking I can get this to work now.  Thanks for your help.
