Measuring Dimensions without Measure Tool

Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find any answers that are still relevant / aren't from 8+ years ago.

I am running AutoCAD Architecture 2020, and recently had to reset the program settings back to default due to an error. Doing this has messed up a lot of my settings - one of which is the ability to show the dimensions / length of a line I am drawing as I am drawing it (i.e live).

I found a partial answer in reference to the Dynamic Input tool and got the dimension box back, though this doesn't always display like how it used to.

I used to be able to check the length of a line by selecting the 'line' command as if i were to draw a new one, click the starting point as being a point on an existing line (be it the endpoint to midpoint) then drag and hover over a different point on said line, which would then display that line's length in the dimension box.

Are there any other dimension box settings that may have changed which I am not aware of?

(TL;DR: How can I check the length of a line without using the measure tool?)

Is this the "dimension box" to which you refer?

Here are the Dynamic Input Settings that produced that result:

Not sure I understand the desire to not use the Measurement tool.  I will confess I have not spent enough time in ACA 2020 yet to be comfortable with its implementation in that version.  If you do not like all of the automatic dimensions that show up, you can always pick one of the command line options, like Distance.  I tend to use the DIST command, in lieu of Measurement tool, even in older versions, as I find it easier to use, particularly if I need to take multiple measurements back-to-back.
