Curious if anyone has recommendations for workstation laptops for Revit, Architecture, and Civil 3D with plenty of power, but plenty of value.

Thanks.

There is no true cheap option if you want true performance with your listed programs.

REVIT requirements are most strict, find which category user you are at the link below and purchase accordingly:

Understood.  I don't use Revit now, but desperately wanting to transition away from Architecture.  Just want the capacity when I get there.  Looking for 4-5 year investment.

I understand what you say.  Just curious if there is something out there for good value....and what you all find is the best value.  Looks like the Lenovo's are amazing for good durability, which I would really value...but i know I'll pay for it.  I got an xi for nearly 4K about 5 years ago, not much use, but had tons of problems with it for what I would say no good reason.  It seems like it was a lemon from the start.

Other thoughts?

Everyone makes a lemon sadly, you just want to make sure you have a robust warranty and replacement option.

You want to purchase a class of PC called a "workstation", or if you want a laptop, you will look for a "mobile workstation". These are designed for CAD, not cheap but very sturdy. Find what you can afford in those categories and you should be set. Brands popular by many are Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI , and lately, the non-workstation-class Microsoft MSSurface Pro units for some reason I have yet to understand.

Well...I do have the thought of abandoning the idea of working off it altogether, and just getting a decent lap top.  The world of electronics is getting quite complicated, really.  I wanted a tablet, but found I needed to really goto apple to get a decent product that had good work capability.  I hate the apple ecosystem, especially the filesystem.  I love the ipad PRO, but also would love to have a slim windows computer for doing other tasks, and maybe minor design on the road.  Last time I bought from XI a laptop workstation, and as I look around, I see about 3500-4500 for an equivalent 2250 desktop.  I hate to get all that power in a laptop to let it sit most of the time.  I don't travel a lot, but hate not being able to work when I do.

Anyway, lots of ramble, but the decisions these days are tough.  if the cost was reasonable, I guess having a virtual computer and accessing with browsers on any type of machine would be most efficient....and I just about hate the cloud!
