Is it possible to open an IFC (create dwg from IFC) and NOT include property set definitions?

Looking at my original post, context is everything.   I have been trying to import ifc building files from Varco Pruden to use as a background model for sections, floor plans etc. which is something that should have been mentioned.

My original post should've been,  I want to open an IFC from VP directly to ACA Does anyone have steps, and or know of any pitfalls.  I've found that secondary members import but frames are a problem. Frames tend to be tapered multi segment sections with non-standard sized sections which do not transfer directly to ACA. Also...make sure AECPSDAUTOATTACH is <OFF>:

The list below are some things to consider when using IFC files from Varco Pruden.  I don't know about other metal building companies as this is the only one I've been able to get this level of service.

1. Ask Dealer for model in multiple files rather than one IFC.

2. Secondary framing members will import as structural member zees and cees

3. Trim and finish will import gutter, corners as structural members.  Siding does not import. I'm not sure siding is really needed unless you are wanting to setup for renderings.

4. Most Primary Frames will not import except for bracing.  Ask for dwg files of the frame elevations. These can be used for sections and help as guides if you want to make your own tapered beams.

Taking everything in multiple files helps sort things out for your model.  These models can quickly become overwhelming if imported as one IFC file. Using multiple files makes layering changes to members a little easier at least for me. Review IFC property set definitions in your style manager and purge unwanted  propoertysets before using dwg file in your project. Also, make sure AECPSDAUTOATTACH is off in any dwg that you plan to use this dwg as a background.

If you have REVIT available.

1. Open IFC in revit and export out to IFC again, choose not to export IFC Property sets. revit will export Everything in a format that ACA will read. Segmented frame pieces will import as multi-view blocks.  Others as frame members.

2. When exporting ifc out from revit, there is a property sets tab, uncheck export IFC common property sets.

3. Open ifc in ACA and then you can purge all of the ifc property set definitions.

There are more options available with this method, but honestly,  I'm not a savvy REVIT user. In the end,  Item 3 answered my original post and I hope this post helps in some way other users wanting to open VP IFC files.
