hatching around blocks

is there a system variable or setting for hatching around blocks?  trying to hatch an elevation but the hatching goes through the block as if its ignored.  I copied the same elevation to a new drawing and there the hatch goes around the block.

thanks.

Check your Island Detection settings.  If you are using a recent version (with the Hatch Creation ribbon), when you start the HATCH command, look at the Command line and choose the seTtings option, to open the Hatch and Gradient dialog.  In the lower right corner of the dialog (to the right of the Help button, if the round button has a right pointing arrow (greater than symbol, ">"), select it to expand the dialog and reveal the Islands area.  In the problem drawing, Island detection may be disabled, or the display style may be set to ignore.

Enable Island detection (check mark in that toggle) and choose Normal or Outer as the Island display style.

Sorry about that.  typically, dynamic blocks should be created on the layer 0.  I realized that I had turned off layer 0 to hatch and even though the block was still there, layer 0 was turned off.  Hence the reason for the hatch to ignore the block.

5 years later and this mere comment just saved a University of Maryland Landscape Architecture Major from an hour of frustration. I don't know how you figured that out and I don't know the significance of the 0 layer, but I will trek on my life journey to appreciate this comment and the 0 layer. If you ever see this, thank you kind soul.
