Displaying hatch for structural member (beam) in plan view

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to get a structural member to display a hatch pattern (any hatch pattern) in the plan view.

I've created a custom structural member profile (2 x 4), a material called "soft lumber" and a structural member style called "high anchor support"

In actuality, this is just a piece of lumber bolted to the fence for anchoring cabinets.
I would like (and I mean sincerely) to have the piece of wood display with a hatch fill in the plan view to help make it clearly discernable-like so:

Here is a method for "hatching" the plan view. I used a custom block display which could be assigned as a display override.

That's pretty cool.

OK, so it looks like it propagates the block down the length of the beam and that this block can be anything.  You just mimicked an 45° hatch.

I like that approach and I'll definately add it to my bag of tricks.  So thank you.

If you figure out how to get the plan hatch feature in the material definition to display a hatch, let me know.

I guess I needed to take a second look. Here is a version where the hatch will work based on plan and style override. See cut plane override.

Oh, that's pretty good.

See, I thought I'd figured out the cut plane override because I was able to get it to work on a mass object, but couldn't zero on it in this case.
OK, thank you very much.

when I select the beam with the hatch and then click add selected and draw a beam on the left.  It comes in with no hatch.

The component name under the design tab is editable.
