Disappearing x buttons and such... when & why?

So, does anyone besides me find it frustrating to have to hover over a window so that you can find out where the "x" button is so that you can close the window and like tasks

I'm real curious as to what the logic is with this and why it's making itself more and more prevalent between different softwares.

Yes, it's in AutoCAD too, thus part of my "rant"...... why?

If I'm remembering correctly MY first exposure to this was on some X version of Mac OSX, but not sure. Yes, I like my mac but liking it less and less the more they doink around with the UI...... really disliking my yosemite right now.

Anyone have any history regarding this annoying trend (of course my opinion only), and one good reason why we need to continue down this path?

which "x" button? how are they hidden? Show us screenshots? Which ACA software? Windows version?

The Minimize, Restore Down and Exit buttons are clearly visible in the top r/h corner of my ACA 2015 application.

Properties palette & xref palette as examples.

Running ACA2016 on Windows.

Example....

Select object> Right Click> Properties. Palette comes up. Close (x) button is hidden until you hover over the Title area of the palette.

XREF>Enter palette similar.

Ok...that could be true for 2016......I don't know as I have 2015.

If true for 2016, I would not be happy with that either and I would support your rant.

(they sometimes do funny stuff at Autodesk, just to tinker with things that are working perfectly fine)

I just went and looked at my LT2014 properties window. No issues with this there, so maybe it is unique to 2016.

Are these docked by chance? No X if docked without some effort.  It's always worked like that, you probably used to have these floating in other versions and in LT (same applies to LT by the way).

You're right!

The ones missing the x are indeed docked. When I opened LT my properties palette was not docked, thus the x shows up by default.

I'm back and forth between having x palette docked or undocked, so never really any consistency as to how I have things set up.

Regardless, I still think this is an issue and don't understand the reasoning behind it.... other than the designers think that if something is docked is to be there permanently and that we may not want to be looking at an "x". Like I said before, mac does this with some of there palettes when they are NOT docked and it's about to drive me away from the product.

Glad that was the issue after all: right or wrong it's been this way for so long now changing it would upset more users that just having the few who recently noticed it to learn it (if you know what I mean).

I personally dock to the left (as opposed to your hang-open on the left) and turn on auto-hide: when my cursor moves away the palette "closes" and when my mouse hovers it "opens". Try it.
