Dialog boxes do not stay on screen with CAD program - 3 monitors

My work just upgraded us to AutoCAD Arch. 2018 from 2016.  I have 3 monitors and when ever I open a dialog box for instance "wblock", they all fly over to another screen.  we have laptops that we work with and I have my autocad on one of the added monitors and the dialog boxes fly over to the laptop screen every single time.  I can physically move them back over to the screen with cad but the next time I use that command it flies right back to the laptop screen.  This did not happen with my 2016 AutoCAD I had just 3 weeks ago.

Is there a method, command or some way to keep the dialog boxes with the AutoCAD program on the same screen?

Im just annoyed at this point!

Thanks

Kevin

My laptop screen is primary (#1) and my cad is on screen #2, all my dialog boxes open up on screen #1 (annoying).  With AutoCAD 2016 before we upgraded to 2018, it all opened up with my AutoCAD program on screen #2 so im not sure why it has changed.  I tried to mess with my windows configuration and the graphics card settings and still no such luck.  I feel it is some setting in AutoCAD 2018 that is not set or needs to be set.

Why did it work just fine on AutoCAD 2016 and not on this 2018 version?  that's what seems odd to me.

Thanks

Hi @kmaj8H73P,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community, and thank you for posting your question here in the AutoCAD Architecture forum!

The behavior you're describing is controlled by the graphics system, and you can usually adjust your graphics card/driver settings. This does vary from setup to setup, and depends on your combination of graphics card, driver version, operating system, and hardware/monitor specs.

Usually you're looking for a program from the graphics card manufacturer, like NVIDIA's nView or AMD/ATI's Hydravision, which have settings to control positioning of application windows and dialog boxes.

Try the settings adjustment in the following article and let us know if this helps:

OK, thanks so I atleast now its a graphics card thing but why would this be ok with AutoCAD Arch 2016 that was on the same computer just 3 weeks ago and now with AutoCAD arch 2018 its not working?

just seems very odd to me.

I have the Intel HD graphics card and there is no where on there settings to do anything with positioning windows.

Could this possibly be an AutoCAD Arch 2018 glitch?  if so and if not, all in all, its truly annoying to have to continuously refer to the other monitor for the dialog boxes.

Also, just thought of this, if its a graphics card thing, then other programs would have the same issue and I am only having it on AutoCAD.

Thanks

Hi @kmaj8H73P,

The Intel HD graphics cards are not certified for AutoCAD 2018-based products (ACA included), on Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 (not sure which OS you're on, so I looked up all three). Any chance you have dual graphics cards in the machine, or is it just the Intel HD card?

The software and its requirement change from year to year, so it's important to ensure you're running with certified hardware based on your AutoCAD version and operating system version.

Start GRAPHICSCONFIG command in ACA2018 and post a screenshot of that pop-up here please?
Also do the same for the pop-up from Windows > Control Panel > System > Device Manager with the DISPLAY ADAPTERS section expanded (or just use Windows Search and type DEVICE MANAGER it should bring it up).

So yesterday I got with my IT guy and he helped me find on my computer that there is an AMD graphics card as well.

I got a few screen shots like the previous post suggested to try and help me with this issue.

You need to either disable the Intel or assign the AMD card to AutoCAD: it may be done as simply as this or your IT will need to research the topic at your laptop manufacturers support website https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCA...

Hi @kmaj8H73P,

In addition to @pendean's advice, you might also find this article helpful, as it describes how to control the graphics system on a machine with the same two graphics cards as you've indicated you have (solution is over on Dell's knowledgebase):
