Custom Space Tag...or maybe Schedule?

ACA2016

So...  I use spaces to calculate footages and occupant loads. I need a custom block to insert into each room (space) that will indicate the Room Name, Area SF, Occupant Load Factor and Occupant Load. I was thinking that what I wanted was a custom tag, but the more I think about it, the more I think it might make sense to create a small schedule that I just insert into each space. That way I can update it if the room changes. However, the problem is (if you look at the attached) that I'm not sure a schedule can be created the way I want. I want no headings, and no totals. Also, I need it to be vertical instead of horizontal. By that I mean that IF I wanted headings, they'd be on the left w/ the data traveling right as opposed to how it naturally is with headings on top and data traveling down.  If you look at the attached it will become clear what I'm trying to create.

I could actually just create a block w/ attributes and edit each one manually, which I suspect is where this will wind up anyway, so I'll probably just start w/ that, but it would be really cool if this worked!

Attached is my construct if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about. I've tagged one space w/ the Space Identifier tag. I also generated my custom Occupant Load schedule for that space. Drawn below that schedule is what I'd like to create. I also included a screen shot of it in case you want to start there and just see what I'm talking about. I also included a screen shot of the PSD I use for my Space Objects.

Thanks in advance to anyone that actually looks at this!!!

Use a tag. Make it look like what you want.  I use similar tags.

Hi @BBP-Arch,

It is very easy to customize the property sets you use or create another one. Same for tags. Here is a screencast to explain how to do so with tags.

Also, if you want to edit your property sets to add another property (Space Type for example), it's also possible. You'll also be able to edit the tags to link to that newly created property. Screencast below :

About the "default" column in the property set, it's not mandatory to fill it. The purpose is that it will simply populate newly created spaces/tags by default. I prefer having default placeholders myself but it's up to whoever uses/manages the drawing.

Nice screencast but you don't even need to make a block or define attributes.  It's much easier than that.  Just draw things the size you want them at the current scale using the text as shown in OP's drawing.  Then use the define custom tag command.  For each text element, choose the property you want to report.  It automatically scales the drawn elements to both the annotation scale and to the annotation size.

True indeed. I just find it nicer to name the attributes the "property set name : property name" way so it's already populated when using DEFINETAG.

About the scale, I don't know why it changed once I created the tag because it never happens to me. Maybe it was because of some units conflict (as I work with metric ones...). I then used that "bug" so I could also explain that a tag was simply a (multi-view) block and that it could be edited easily afterwards.

When i create a custom tag from the DEFINETAG command it is inserted at a wrong scale.  Either it comes in smaller than 1:1 or it comes in larger than 1:1 but never at the correct scale?  Any ideas?

@Smajon

This blog article outlines the process I use when creating a new Schedule Tag using the Define Schedule Tag wizard.  It reflects the fact that I learned how to make Schedule Tags before there was annotative content for AutoCAD.  Perhaps setting the current scale to 1:1 (or 1'-0" = 1'-0") and the annotation plot size to 1 is more than absolutely necessary, but doing so gives me consistent results, so I stick with it.

@Smajon,

The main thing you need to remember about how ACA handles annotative content vs AutoCAD is that in ACA, when you design a tag, you should 1)Set a non-annotative text style current and 2)make the text 1" high. The definetag command will then use your settings for preferred note height and annotation scale to automatically scale the tag. You do not need to change the current view annotation scale to 1:1 before defining the tag. In AutoCAD, by comparison, defining annotative content is best done in bedit where the scale is automatically switched to 1:1 to facilitate that task.

The results of the definetag command are both a block definition and a multiview block definition, which is more difficult to accomplish by going through the rigmarole of figuring out what the attribute names should be to automatically fill in the data.

dbroad,

Thank you so much.  Between David Kochs blogs, and your explanations i finally muddled though it.  It took some time and fiddling with, but ive got all our tags working now smoothly with auto tagging, and scheduling.

Thanks again.
