Cursor Issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm not sure what happened but I'm wondering if there was an update because now I can't erase anything in my drawing without the cursor jumping around and making it impossible to work. [I am trying to erase the transom window -- see the screencast]

I turned off Hardware Acceleration (3DCONFIG) per another forum post suggestion ... and the issue did not improve.

I've gone to Options and tried to change selection modes but the cursor is still jumpy and not selecting what I need it to select.

I've unplugged my mouse and tried just using the laptop touchpad. I've tried adjusting the mouse settings .... but ultimately, I cannot navigate properly.

Do you just need to turn off SNAP (F9 key on your keyboard)?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me @pendean, but no.  I've tried it with and without OSNAP being on.  It is almost like the mouse and the pickbox are not syncing -- the timing between the two is off.

No,  thank you for your reply again @pendean but it isn't OSNAP or SNAP -- I created a second video and turned off SNAP during the recording and as you can see the rectangular pick point and the mouse cursor are not syncing for some reason.  I'm starting to wonder if my drawing is corrupt ... because I have now uninstalled autoCAD 2019 and installed autoCAD 2020 and I am still having the issue with the cursor not syncing.  I also ran a purge.  It has taken me all afternoon just to erase this door while my cursor and pickpoint jump around.  I've been drafting in autoCAD professionally for 20 years and I've never had this issue with the erase command.  I even have to select erase several times before the erase function accepts.  It appears to just be occurring in this drawing file ... but it is a very important file that I have been working on for the last 6 months.

@Anonymous

To what value is the UCSDETECT system variable set?  If it is set to 1, does changing it to 0 help with the cursor lag?

Nothing attached.

Why not include your DWG file and explain how we can replicate the issue inside of it. Let's see your work.

@David_W_Koch yes, it was set to 1, I changed to 0 ... it did not improve.  I am going to attach my drawing files in reply to thread below.

@pendean attached for review - thank you!

I even went back to an older file, because I suspected that the file I was working in became corrupt; however, the older file has the same issue with the erase command and the cursor not syncing with the mouse.

It doesn't appear that you use this ARCH software features much if any, correct? This is just drawn with lines and blocks.

AUDIT command discovered 500+ errors in your top most file, which is slow to navigate for sure in only a 4MB file. After that I am unable to replicate your issue unless I am doing something wrong. Can you walk me through an exact area on how to replicate it?

TIA

Correct .. except ... thinking it over this specific drawing originated from SoftPlan and I got this error message when I first began to work with it.

"Non Autodesk DWG.  This DWG file was saved by a software application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk.  Autodesk cannot guarantee the application compatibility or integrity of this file.”

I'm beginning to think that I may need to redraw a great portion of it.  Thoughts?  Have you ever experienced anything similar?

The drawing definitely has problems but doesn't arise to the level of a redraw unless dimensions are a problem.  I would suggest:

  1. Audit as @pendean stated with fix set to yes.
  2. Purge out all your unneeded items (nested on).  There's a lot of defined but unused items.
  3. Get rid of extra annotation scales.  Your drawings seem mostly 1/4"=1'-0" but are all set to 1/8"=1'-0". This makes the annotations overlap in model space.
  4. Use overkill perhaps.

Suggestions:

  1. Stop using pasteblock and then exploding the block.  Over time this bloats your drawings.
  2. Avoid trying to do everything in a single file.  There are elevations, sections, details, and plan views in this file.
  3. Always define blocks so that the content is close to the insertion point. I batch inserted all the blocks at the same insertion point and the content was spread far apart.

The attached drawing is about half the size of the one you attached.

Yes, that does appear to have corrected the erase  and cursor issue.  To note: I deleted about 24 tabs worth of drawing sheets to shrink the file for upload, as my employer requests 11x17 and 24x26 sized drawing sets using both 1/8" and 1/4" scale respectively.  EXTREME gratitude for the repair -- THANK YOU @dbroad
