Copying layout from another drawing

I've been given a set of 15 drawing files.

I am told to combine them all into a single drawing file with 15 layouts.

I am befuddled on how to do this.

Any instructions would be appreciated.

If I understand correctly, these are 15 separate drawing files.  Do you be able to view these drawings on separate layout tabs or all on one layout?  

You need to create a new drawing then import each of the 15 files into model space in the new file.  The easiest way to do that would be to just drag and drop them.  

The next step would be to start the layout tabs.  If you only need one page, then one layout that encompasses everything in model space and scaled so that it all fits into the plot size you want.

If you want individual pages then pretty much the same operation with a layout tab for each page.

You're saying to "drag & drop" each drawing file into the new sheets Model Space.

After doing the first one, how do I get a layout tab to show the correct layer status ?

The layer manager gives you the option of controlling layer visibility, color and linetype on a per viewport basis.  With the desired layout active, start the layer manager and set whatever paramenters you want for each layer.  You'll need to set these for each viewport.
