when I print my drawing to PDF  from Model Space or Paper space, the generated PDF file has some of the frozen layer showing.

I printed to different printers( large format or office printer and the result is the same.

Here are the 2 files . The "GROUND FLOOR PLAN" is referenced in the "NEW GROUND FLOOR PLAN".

The PDF file attached shows the existing demo walls & equipment layers which were frozen when I printed. (The print preview screen shows the print correctly). Thank you for your help

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting your files here for analysis. Everything in your file previews and plots correctly here for me.

The only things I changed were the plotter configuration and plotstyle. I used AutoCAD PDF (General Documentation) and Monochrome.ctb.

  • I'm working with AutoCAD Architecture 2018.0.3 built on AutoCAD 2018.1.1.
  • Could you please check your installation and verify you've installed all of the available updates? (Enter ABOUT at the command line to check.)

I am working with Autocad Architecture 2018.0.2-

I printed the drawing with the settings you suggested and I get the same result: some of the frozen layers show in the final print, not in the print preview.

Attached is the PDF file(test.pdf)

I printed the same drawing from another computer same ACA built and it worked (test2.pdf)

Hi @Anonymous,

Could you please post a screenshot of the ABOUT dialog box from both your computer and the other computer where the issue does not occur?

There are updates for both AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture that need to be installed. I wonder if you could install AutoCAD 2018.1.1 as well as AutoCAD Architecture 2018.0.3?

These are the latest available updates, and I'd like to ensure you've installed them to rule out any issues that have been fixed by the updates to both the AutoCAD core program and ACA.

Hello!

Actually the version of ACA with no issue is older than the one on my computer see attached. My version is the 2018.0.2 the other 2018.

Could I update my ACA without maintenance or subscription? our maintenance contract expired just after built 2018.0.2 was released

Those layers are not frozen in your sample DWG files, so this begs the question, are you sure?
Are the frozen layers on your xref?

Can you repost both files correctly 'frozen" as you are plotting them so we can test what you are testing?

The layers are frozen for both files as you can see in the attached PDF. The drawing shows right in the print preview.

I saved the drawing with the attached xref with the frozen layers as I would like to print it. If I open the drawing at a different computer those layers are on, with same layers state as the print I am problem with. If I repost the files with the correct layer state it wont help.

It looks like the screen on my computer shows those layers frozen, but they are actually on. I also turned off those layers and with the same result.

If I freeze the layers in the x-ref and then I reload the xref in the drawing and those layer stay frozen when I print. But I never had to do it that way. Also some of the layers I want frozen are in the actual drawing not in the xref one.

Thanks for you help

So this is a VISRETAIN issue in the top file, you have the wrong setting perhaps.

In the files you posted, and only frozen layer associated with the xref (in your top file and in the XREF itself) is GROUND FLOOR PLAN|CENTER LINE and nothing else, hence the reason I asked in my earlier reply for you to correctly freeze the "demo and equipment" layers.

Attached is a PDF I generated from your top file with all of your XREF files frozen, nothing else, I see no extra layers appearing.

Dean, I change the setting of the VISRETAIN variable from 0 to 1 and it works! This variable must have changed during the installation of one of the updates, because I always had the correct setting.

Thank you for your help!!!
