AutoCAD Architecture Future Features

So I I know that to Autodesk this product is a red-headed stepchild but I can't help but think there are a whole set of features and improvements  they have been ignoring the possibility of for ACA (and even Revit) over the last few years in favor of a half-baked online strategy and squeezing customers for money with subscription switches.

Has anyone tried to use or really understand the strangeness of the folder structures in BIM 360?  Keeping my team from putting the wrong items in the wrong places has been a never-ending battle.  AutoCAD mobile and cloud might as well be trash; other than notations they are less than useful.

What might you ask?  I have a list.

  1. Allow the opening / integration of other documents from the project browser.  I would love to be able to manage my received CAD file, transmittal documents, PDF documents and the like centrally.  Not that I want to work in ACA for those items but just to go and open an ASI issue document from there would save lots of time.
  2. Detail generation / framework - You can generate sections, the software 'know's what wall materials you are using and they have built-in detail blocks link to a product database. Why can't they incorporate an 'autogenerate' feature here?  Stud walls automatically get top and bottom plate studs and insulation added.  Brick walls get an array of brick at the exterior, sheathing gets set, gyp board gets set.  Once generated you can then modify.
  3. Auto Generation of Notes - Setting section of detail notes automatically should be a snap to do if you use the built-in detail items and the scale is set properly.
  4. FIX the project linking features for repeated projects.  I often use the linked model-space view and tag system in project browser but something you learn is that if you use the last project as a template for a new one (for contract clients and prototypes) then you know the links 'break' and you have to re-place all the views and re-link all the tags to get it working again.  FIX IT!  The system works relatively well except for this problem.
  5. Could upgrades to speed be made for the Project Management Linking system (while you're fixing it)?  It works well but is very slow when dragging views.
  6. Can we get verticals for Mac?  Pretty Please?  I know you hitched your wagon to Microsoft, C#, and the .Net framework ages ago but if they can get their own stuff working on a Mac then you can too.  Give us some effort.
  7. Give us back block inserts... I know you think well of your pallets but they are not appropriate for everything.

Give it some thought Autodesk; your software staff's got to be bored with the minimal effort at actual feature development you've been putting in.

Autodesk looks for feedback here, but you have to enter one at a time, and you have to be detailed https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

For...
6. you'd better select AUTOCAD FOR MAC as your softwre before you ask for this one at the link above.
7. CLASSICINSERT (and -INSERT) command in ACA2021 or just INSERT (and -INSERT) command in ACA2020 or older, help yourself.

Thanks for the link of where they are now accepting suggestions.  I might even post them there; but I don't ever remember anybody actually having one seriously taken unless you started a company that they purchased.

I'm aware of 'Classic Insert'; but that's just a way of mapping the command to legacy which they will likely phase-out.   Try typing that over and over when you need to insert multiple items; it becomes quite cumbersome and reminds me of the old-days when there weren't command alias settings.  As much nostalgia as I can muster I don't want to go back to those days.   I suppose I could map it to a new alias but after 20 years of muscle memory it's going to difficult to change.

Whoever has had to do that in the last 30+years: Customize. Are you not able to automate as a macro (if you like button clicking) or an abbreviation (PGP alias edit) or a LISP (for continuous use)?

Friend, we are all old timers, 31-years of AutoCAD here. No one is too old to learn new tricks except for... .

No one here but us end users trying to help fellow users get back to work more efficiently: if you want to rant I understand public parks are a good spot, don't forget the soap box LOL
