I just started working as the Assistant Dean of a community college that is very skilled trades focused. Our two (2) tech and trades buildings are very old and most of the drawings are scanned in. I have rough rough 2D CAD drawings, but they don't show much (lighting plans, plumbing, etc.). My goal is to create useable layouts for building walls. I really like using the Factory Design suite between AutoCAD and Inventor, but when I have wall styles in ACA they are not 3D solids within Inventor. This seems counterintuitive.... Especially because when you export the 3D solid from ACA its a single solid so apply two different styles (inside/outside) doesn't really work that well from my experience. The goal of having an accurate layout is to eventually show lab equipment (robotics, motor controls, electrical panels, etc.) in these spaces and create nice renderings to explain what I want the labs to grow into/look like. What's my best workflow to accommodate this? 2D ACAD layout and Inventor? Learn REVIT? Do everything in Inventor? Or am I missing something that would do what I want syncing between ACA and Inventor without needing to export 3D solids and stuff?
