Associative Spaces and editing walls

I have created Spaces in my floor plan which are then referenced in my finish schedule. The frustration comes every time we need to adjust the plan. For instance, if a wall type is changed or moved over a few inches, the associative space is lost. It is not a big deal to regenerate the space, but it takes time and the schedules have to be checked to make sure that all of the information is updated.

Is there any way to avoid this?  I have tried locking the layer that the space is on, but that doesn't seem to help.

Thanks,

L Holmes

Locking the space layer would be exactly the wrong thing to do.  Spaces should only be lost if editing changes the way the space is contained.  For example, deleting a wall would cause problems.  Moving a wall so that a containment gap would cause problems.  If a wall is intersecting another wall at a corner (L) rather than at a (T) intersection, it should be stretched so that the walls maintain containment.  If you have lines drawn on the floor that are set to bound spaces, they need to be moved at the same time.  ACA is not like Revit.  Moving a wall in Revit will usually maintain its connections with other elements.  In ACA, stretch, being sure to also include connected elements.

Hi @ldharchitects,

Thank you for posting your question here in the community.

Did @dbroad's advice help you prevent this issue from happening to your spaces?

If not, could you record a quick Screencast to illustrate the issue as it occurs for you? This way we can see your exact workflow, and make further recommendations from there.
