After installing a new version of CAD, when opening a specific drawing the text style changes and then will also change all other drawings you open afterward to this same incorrect font until you close out of AutoCAD.

new version of CAD? What's that exactly? What's the old one?
What's the font name and format/type (TTF, SHX, something else)?
What did it look like? What does it look like now?
What font is now used instead?
What does the font alert at the startup say when you open this file (or did you decide to kill it permanently)?

We can't see what you see, so... .

New version is 2021, old was 2018, but this happened when I upgraded to 2012 also, and I cannot recall the solution. Original Text style/Font:  Archstyl/archstyl.shx    The look of the text on the drawing that is wrong is the STANDARD style, but its still listing it as Archstyl/archstyl.shx

I am not sure if (or what) the warning was when I first installed, it was a few months ago, and haven't had time to investigate.

This is only happening when 2 dwg files are opened (out of hundreds).

That's easy then: your session of 2021 AutoCAD/ACA is not finding those custom 1980s fonts.

You can fix it by following these instructions (scroll down to the section labelled "Add SHX Fonts to AutoCAD") https://skillamplifier.com/add-fonts-autocad/

BUT... if the problem resides in only 1 or 2 DWG files then you need to enter STYLE command to fix the font options in those files and remember to QSAVE.

You can turn back on all hidden startup alerts and messages like this https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Restore-...

Yes, it is definitely an old 1980's font!   I was able to fix the fonts in the 2 drawings that were having problems, but every time they are opened, it still causes all drawings that I open after to revert to that "standard" text unless I close out of AutoCAD after opening those 2 drawings.
