ACA 2018 Dynamic Input Prompt does not refresh from last input

I have a Dynamic Input prompt issue that just started a week ago.  I have noticed that the Dynamic Input box that follows my cursor no longer clears itself of the last data input or last data point. See the attached screen shot.  It does this for all of my drawings except our QNEW drawing template.

My Computer Info:

HP Z420

Intel Xeon CPU E5-1620v2 @ 3.70GHz

GB RAM

NVIDIA Quadro K2000

Windows 7 Pro

Any ideas or suggestions on how to resolve this sudden Dynamic Input prompt quirk would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @kenn,

Thank you for posting your question here in the Autodesk Community!

This does seem a bit odd. It could be graphics-related.

I see that your graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro K2000) is certified for use with AutoCAD 2018 products on Windows 7 systems, which is excellent.

Which driver version do you have installed?

The certified driver is version 21.21.13.7586, which you can download and install here if you're currently using a different version.

Hi Victoria,

I tried installing the driver that you had suggested.  It worked for about 20 minutes then my computer went into a major crash.  Our outside IT support spent about 2 hours getting my computer back up and ended up reinstalling the latest NVIDIA driver  Unfortunately,  my AutoCAD Dynamic issue came back.  I forwarded your email to my IT support and they reset the driver to your suggested driver version.

This morning everything was looking good for the first 15 minutes and now the Dynamic Input issue is back but without the crashing.  I am currently running with the NVIDIA driver vers. 21.21.13.7586

Hi @kenn,

Thanks for the update. I was able to look up one of your crash reports that you sent in, and it looks like you may not have all of the available updates for AutoCAD 2018 and AutoCAD Architecture 2018 installed (or at least not at the time the crash report was sent in).

Could you open your Autodesk Desktop App, sign in, and install all of the available updates for both AutoCAD 2018 and AutoCAD Architecture 2018?

Hi @Victoria.Studley,

I checked the Autodesk Desktop App and all of the available updates have been installed.  if I remember correctly,  the Dynamic Input issue started after the last round of updates.  Unfortunately, I am the only one on our design staff using Dynamic Input, so I am not able to gauge if it is just my computer or if it is happening to everyone in our department.

Hi @Victoria.Studley,

Following up from my last post, my AutoCAD problems got worse this morning as all of sudden my tool palettes disappeared as well as my license.  I tried doing a repair and a reinstall and both failed as neither could find the file path.

I did a full uninstall and reinstall.  3 hours later, AutoCAD Architecture launched and worked fine and the Dynamic Input problem was solved.  Then I noticed that the 9/6/17 Hot fix update was not installed.  I installed the 9/6/17 Hotfix and my Dynamic Input problem has come back.  Therefore, it is safe to say that the cause of the Dynamic Input problem is in the last Hotfix Update.

Hi @kenn,

I'm glad to hear you seem to have narrowed it down.

To clarify, did the issue return when you installed the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update? (This is the one released on September 6th, and applies to the core AutoCAD program.)

Also, if you uninstall that update, does the issue subside again?

  • To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates (on the left).
  • Double-click the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update and choose Uninstall.

Before you do this, though, it is important to note that I also have the 2018.1.1 update installed here on my end, and have not been able to reproduce this issue. So it sounds to me like this still may be caused by something environmental.

Hi @Victoria.Studley,

The issued returned after I installed the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update.  I will try to do the update uninstall later today or tomorrow as I do need to get a drawing done.

I checked the list of updates to uninstall and there are (2) old Autodesk AutoCAD 2017 updates that still exist even though I had uninstalled 2017 when we updated to 2018:

Could these 2017 updates cause a conflict with the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update?

HI @Victoria.Studley,

I just had a graphics induced fatal crash. I did send error report if that includes any clues that you could look at.

Hi @Victoria.Studley

Following up with a few updates since last.  On last Friday 9/22 our IT support service had determined that my Windows 7 OS had become corrupted and now my computer is in for rebuilding.

In the mean time, I am using an identical HP Z420 workstation that did not have the 9/3/17 AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update installed yet and everything was fine.  I installed the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 Update and the Dynamic Input box issue has come back on this workstation too.

The mystery continues.

Might be a good time to abandon Win7 and move on to Win10: ACA2018.1.1 works like a charm here.

Hi @kenn,

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue here in ACA 2018 with AutoCAD 2018.1.1 update installed, on a Windows 7 machine with certified graphics card and driver version.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the exact way the issue is presenting itself on your end. Could you please record and post a Screencast video that shows before the issue happens as well as once it starts happening?

If we can't reproduce it here in a supported environment, then this narrows down the cause to something environmental on you end.

Hi @Victoria.Studley,

I have attached a Screencast.  Hopefully this will give some insight.  The recorded drawing started out normal with no issues.  After about 20 seconds, the Dynamic Input Box no longer clears itself and stays open with a previous coordinate that may not be relevant to what is occurring on the screen.

Thanks,

Ken

I would love to upgrade to Win 10, unfortunately that will not be in the budget for another year or two.

I am not sure if this matters, but do you also have the AutoCAD Architecture 2018.0.2 Update installed, in addition to the AutoCAD 2018.1.1?  I am running Windows 7 on my work computer, and I cannot reproduce your issue here.

I do have the AutoCAD Architecture 2018.0.2 updates installed on all of our CAD machines.  The fortunate part is that AutoCAD Architecture is still functional, it is just with the Dynamic Input Box being open all of the time, it is visually annoying.

Hi @kenn,

There is no Screencast attached/embedded to your post.

Here are the instructions to attach it:

  • First, make sure the Screencast is set to Public.
  • Below the text editing box for your forum post, there is an Insert Screencast section.
  • Pick the MY SCREENCASTS tab.
  • Select the Screencast video from your list of Public Screencasts.
  • The preview will appear.
  • Click the INSERT button in the lower right and it will embed the Screencast in your forum post.
  • Finish composing your post, scroll to the bottom, and click the POST button as you normally would.

Hi @Victoria.Studley

Sorry about the missing Screencast, must have missed the insert button.  See the Screencast below.

Thanks,

Are you by chance talking about your cursor location coordinates that are appearing as you move it around (when no command is running)?
