ACA 2018: Creating view error message

ACA 2018: Creating view error message

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have a pretty major issue right now when it comes to creating views from current drawings. I go through the process of creating a general view from the construct and when I click finish after selecting all the constructs I want included and levels I get a fatal error message. I have sent the error report to Autodesk but I very rarely get a response when I do these things.

The error message I get is this: FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at 56f937b2h

If anyone has any suggestions or can help that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chas Murphy

When there is no response, there is no solution: no one responds and says "hey, we have no idea what's going on...".

What us through your command sequences step by step until it crashes: also confirm if the problem is in ALL files ALL the time, or is it limited.

You want each command as I do it? And this is happening with ALL files ALL the time.

"I go through the process of creating a general view from the construct and when I click finish after selecting all the constructs I want included and levels I get a fatal error message."

What kind of view(s) are you creating that causes you to crash?

Plan view? elevation view? section view? Other view?

How many constructs? How many levels?

Your description is a little confusing because you say "create a general view from the construct" and then you "select all the constructs and levels"

Note the singular and plural descriptions.

Without knowing what and how you create these views it's hard to figure out what causes you to crash.

I am trying to create a floor plan view through new view dwg.

I go through the normal process of creating a floor plan view from a new view dwg using one construct and one level.

When I hit finish it thinks and I get the Fatal Error message. This has happened for all of the plan views that I have attempted to generate for my project.

Hope this is a better description,

Still a little confusing:

"I go through the normal process of creating a floor plan view from a new view dwg using one construct and one level"

Are you creating a view drawing from a new view drawing?

Not being picky here, just trying to understand what you are doing.

Generally you create a floor plan view drawing from the construct.

Have you tried purging all your files, have you tried AUDIT on all your files?

How big is the construct file size?

Have you tried creating an elevation or section view drawing? Just try to see if that crashes as well.

How long since you've this problem? Just started recently? And were you able to create view dwgs previously without problems?

I know, lots of questions..........and more questions.

P.s. are you using relative or absolute paths for xrefs?

What are the lengths of the file names.

I believe there is a 128 limit on file names and nested xrefs with long names can give you problems.

I am creating the floor plan view from the construct and I this has just started recently and was able to create view drawings before.

I did a purge, haven't done an AUDIT. I can create my section and elevation views no problem.

I am using relative paths and the construct names are short; I don't like using long names to confusing.

Ok....

What I would do is start a brand new project in the Project Navigator.

Create a construct from the construct and see if you still have the problem.

If no, the problem can be isolated to your drawing files.

If no, it is likely to be a  software problem. In that case I would try a repair installation of ACA.

BTW what version of ACA?

Sorry, I meant to say "create a view drawing from the empty construct".

OK, so here is the weirdest thing. I, too, have been getting the same problems with ACA 2018. I create a new project, with constructs. I then go to the Views tab, and endeavor to create a new view (using the General setting). I tick the box to open the new view in the Drawing Editor, and boom, it crashes with a fatal error. EVERY....****....TIME.

I decided to try something a bit crazy (I know, we all need something when we are using ACA, right?). I opened EVERY construct in the drawing editor, so that I had each construct as a file tab under the ribbon and repeated the view creation process.

So here it is, it only BLOODY worked, didn't it? Why, I really don't know. But it worked.

Not a perfect solution, but it allowed me to continue working. Until ADSK actually come up with a reply to my crash report, I guess that it how it will have to be.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Is the crash while creating a view is seen only in "zero doc" state (i.e. when no drawing is opened in ACA)? If so, this is a known issue and we are working on a fix. As a workaround, please have at least one drawing open while creating a new view.

Thanks,

Hi @cadfmconsultants,

It looks like @ADSK451812 provided a clear explanation of why this crash might be happening. Does this seem like the cause of the issue, and does it subside if you have at least one drawing open when you create new views?
