ACA 2015 SP2 Xrefs error

After updating to Service Pack 2, Some xrefs won't load and only after recovering them seems to fix the issue. It is very tedious to do this in hundreds of drawings.  Error message during recover are: 'Invalid registered-application name "" found.' and 'Invalid registered-application name "n  " found.' I reinstalled ACA and everything works fine, also some drawings I guess after SP1 update seems to work fine.

Hi Mario,

If you open the same files in ACA 2015 without any service packs applied, do the XREFs all load properly?

Are there any error messages displayed at the command line after they load when you open the file? (Press F2 to review the history in a separate window.)

  • Ex. "It is recommended you open and resave the Xref file to remove excess scales."

When you clean up the XREF drawings, with or without service packs installed:

  • Does an AUDIT fix any errors?
  • Does -PURGE > RegApps remove any registered applications?
  • Does -PURGE > All remove a lot of unreferenced data?
  • Are there excessive scales that can be removed from the scale list (SCALELISTEDIT)?

While something in Service Pack 2 could be affecting your XREFs, if there is file corruption or excess data that can be recovered or removed from your drawings, or you are seeing the warning messages when the XREFs originally load when the file is opened, the XREFs need to be cleaned regardless of which service packs you have installed.

I'd like to know if there are no errors or excess content in the files before Service Pack 2 is installed, but some appears after it is installed (as if the service pack is causing errors/corruption in the files). If this is the case, could you zip up and attach a sample set of files where this is occurring?

I am getting the same error.

Purge, -Purge Regapps, scale list cleaning , and write blocking entire drawing didn't help. Opening the same files in ACAD 2015 SP1 works fine.

Recover worked, but it's a pain in the **** to do this.

Do you need any other info to help us fix this problem with SP2?

Thanks.

YES, All xrefs load normally without Service Packs and on SP1. As i said i have to reinstall ACA.

YES, I don't remember exactly...it shows error messages loading xrefs and tells me to recover the files.

See my original post about error messages and the pop-up error message during audit.

YES, I'm seeing the affected xrefs error messages during file open. I suspect that SP2 does more error checking than previous update. I've had some files from our consultants with excessive linetypes and abnormal big file size. I fixed them thru autodesk purge tools that remove dictionaries etc. sorry I cannot remember the name.

There are no error messages on SP1 and without service packs. I could upload the file later when I'm in the office.

Thank you for your reply.

Four of us in our office are pulling our hair specially when you are in a project deadline. We figured it's the SP2 when one just installed it and surprised the drawings were not loading when it was working fine a few minutes ago.

Autodesk,

Is there any progress on this issue?

I had to uninstall and reinstall ACAD 2015 on two workstations to fix this problem.

Software updates should fix problems, not create them!

Edit: Just saw this on Google... http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/XREFs-u...

That response is BS. There were no problems prior to SP2; now suddenly the xref'd files are corrupted??

HotFix released for AutoCAD 2015 SP2 and all verticals based on it.

Thank you CVC,

I can say it fixed the xrefs issue but now the issue is with xref edit in place on blocks. It would take at least 3 minutes to close on block, xrefs seems normal. I hope Autodesk Software Team fixed the problem and not create another problem. I'm switching back to SP1.

The solution is to just not install any AutoCAD updates! 😞
