2018 block editor/edit block in place

So what happened to the block editor tab on top in 2018?  Even if you right click on a block and say edit in place there isn't a tab at the top of the screen.  You can no longer test a block while in the block editor and to get out of the command you can't have anything selected and you must right click to save your changes.  In the edit block in place you can no longer add/remove anything to the working set either.  Is this a bug or is this how it's going to be from now on?

Thanks

It sound like you migrated your customizations/customization file from a previous release.  As noted in this Autodesk Knowledge Network article, there is an issue with the migration tool that is not pulling contextual ribbon tabs along.  The suggested fix is to reset AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP back to defaults.

So I will have to manually bring in my toolbars, palettes and custom commands, is that correct?

Hi @Spaup20,

For right now, yes, a manual migration of your settings is the only workaround for the issue. You can use the CUI Transfer Tab to navigate to the CUIX file from your previous release and drag and drop your customization in.

The development team is investigating it though, and we'll update that article if a fix becomes available. The Autodesk Desktop App will also alert you when a new update is available, so make sure you install them when you see the notification (and check the ReadMe to see which fixes/updates are included.)

Great!  I think I'll wait for the patch before doing it manually.  We aren't going to use ACA 2018 for a long, long time.  I was just getting mine set up to see what's new.  And by the looks of it, not much!

Hi Victoria...

I'm having the same problem but I'm unable to reset settings to default as well. Any idea when this patch might be available? I'm horrible with CUI.

Thanks,

I am having this same problem, however, the reset shown in the article is for AutoCAD, not Architecture and it did not help my problem in architecture (straight AutoCAD works fine).

I too was dismayed to find the context ribbon missing for when you edit a block from within the drawing.  I also migrated my settings using autocad's built in Migrate feature, for what it's worth.  My workaround involved adding to the quick access menu bar, the command that allows you to exit out of the block and transport you back into your drawing.  The command is called "Xref and Block, Save Reference Edits" (ACA).  All you need to do is right click on the quick access toolbar, select "Customize quick access toolbar", the CUI manager pops up.  Type in "Save" and "Xref and Block, Save Reference Edits" will appear at the bottom of the list.  Drag the icon into your quick access bar, and it'll stick.  Click 'OK' in the CUI menu box to close it out.

Now select any block you wish to edit within the drawing, do your edit, and when you wish to teleport back to your drawing, click the new "Xref and Block, Save Reference Edits"  icon in your quick access and it'll ask you if you wish to save your edits (just as before), and you're back in biz.

Not sure how Autodesk dropped the ball on this seemingly fundamental feature, but they did - until SP1, here's your fix.

Thanks Scott !

I was about to give up but had to reinstall for other reasons and the
problem resolved itself. You're right, it was a real oops !

Did you reinstall a default bare bones setup, or did you also migrate from an earlier vintage? Iā€™m curious if the ā€˜migrationā€™ effort mucks up the works.

Hi! As recommended,  I installed update for AutoCAD Architecture but still tabs for block editor don't show, only typing. Everything works OK in AutoCAD Architecture 2017 version.  Mystery? Thanks in advance!

The command name, while in BEDIT, is BAUTHORPALETTE: type it and hit <enter> (or go to the MANAGE panel in the BLOCK EDITOR tab in the RIBBON that only appears when you are in BEDIT command and click on palettes): does it show up?
If not, it may be off screen https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Palett...

Thank you but it doesnā€™t work as it should ā€“ still typing BCLOSE and etc. Same for dynamic blocks application.
When I migrated my setting, I could see panels while used Edit Block in-place but my Raster 2018 stopped working. Just have to spend more time unfortunately to get everything work as I wanted (used to be for AUtoCAD Architecture and Raster 2016).
My Plug-ins are not showing as well, but all of them are sitting in my CUI. Only when I type specific abbreviation for commands....
I am using AutoCAD for 20 years and every second release give me a headache šŸ˜Š

Thank you for your support,

Reset ARCH 2018 (this removes all migration content and add-ons): now test BEDIT and REFEDIT commands, still missing content?

How to reset AutoCAD products is explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

I'm having the same issue with a fresh install of Autocad Architecture 2018.

Did you migrate content from a previous release, prior to installing the latest updates?  The 2018.0.1 Update for AutoCAD Architecture 2018 claims to have resolved the migration issue.  I never migrate content, so I cannot say whether or not it works, from personal experience.

In any event, at this point you should reset AutoCAD Architecture 2018 to defaults, and then make sure you have both the AutoCAD Architecture 2018.0.3 and the AutoCAD 2018.1.2 updates before trying to migrate content from a previous version.
