Unable to Save Drawing

Hello and thanks in advance. I recently installed a NEW hard drive and all my software. Now when I open a drawing and edit it , then save I get "Unable to Save Drawing, Drawing saved to save.ac$". I reset Shared & Security Permissions for that folder. So I'm not sure what else to do.

If You copied all files from CD to the new hard drive they are all
read-only, sometimes this also happens when copying from one drive to
another.
Select all files, use properties, unselect the Read-only marker.

Hello Jan,

Thank you for your feedback. The files are on another computer and I access them thru our network which I am the administrator. I tried this again by disabling the Firewall and Anti-Virus program and it seemed to work. But I'm not still sure what program is causing the problem and how to fix it.

Eliminate different scenarios

Can you save dwg files locally on the new machine?
Can you copy/modify files in the shared folder through the network?
(outside of AutoCAD)
What OSes are you using? Different OSes offer different share/rights
options

Hello RealJD,

Yes I can save files on the Local Machine.
I can modify and copy but cannot save once modified.
I am using WINXP Pro and the machine with the Acad files is on Win2000. I can access others files and folders on the shared machine.

As a interim solution, you may have to copy the files locally to the winxp
system, modify and copy back.

If you can open, modify but not save to the win2k machine but save
locally, you've eliminated that your autocad is at fault, (obvious, i
know) I would suspect it's a rights issue on the shared folder. On Win2k,
you can assign rights to individual files as well as folders. Do the
rights on the files allow other users to modify them? Is the login used on
the WinXP system part of the users allowed to modify files on the shared
folder/files? Is the new machine, included in a group to allow write
access to the shared folder? Ensure that modify access has been granted to
the shared folder/files. Maybe you've run throught these already, but if
so, we can eliminate it from the cause.

Don't know if its fixed.
You write after turning off the firewall it works, looks to me that
there the pit is.
Find out if your firewall allows you to write to your server.
Otherwise, check if the rights on the server are set correctly.
There is probably a tab Sharing and a tab Security (I din't invent
this), on both tabs you need to have similar rights.

Jan
