Why do we have 'comments'?

It's quite easy to miss them and you have to click on them to open and read them. Can't we just exist on replies?

We have thought about this as well but we are not certain that they can be removed. Looking into it.

But every reply is categorized as an "answer"

I don't like seeing questions and comments as answers.

By posting this, now I've got one more "answer" added to my total.

the norm on these types of Q&A forums is to have comments so it would be best to have people differentiate between what qualifies as a comment and what as an answer.

I agree and I usually convert "answers" to comments when I can (comments have a shorter maximum length, so it's not always easy)
